Went to lock up the chickens later last night it was not real wet or cold, then some movement caught my eye when I shined the flashlight the ground was covered with nightcrawlers everyplace I looked. Never seen so many in my life like that at one time, still seen a few in the AM crawling around.
Was born in a Big City Will die in the Country OK with that!

I filled a bucket up last night. Can't wait to go fishing with them. It's been many years since we've had them like this. I think getting rid of my ducks may have helped them recover.

Right after a rain, it's not unusual. Strange when it's dry, though.

If you have a bit of land, you could start a small compost pile. Read the book "worms eat my Garbage."

Picking crawlers has been tough this year for me. Paying $4.00 a dozen stings too!
Chris I think I need to get in the worm business. Wow.

If you have a bit of land, you could start a small compost pile. Read the book "worms eat my Garbage." I have two compost bins cooking now. As the compost ages the red worms enter. New compost bins are too hot for worms too survive. Chris

Nightcrawlers won't be in compost. Nightcrawlers like it very cool. Redworms will compost but nothing will live in a hot compost pile at 160*. Hot compost will cook a batch in about 2 weeks. Cold compost takes a year or longer.
Life ain't supposed to be easy.

I do vermicomposting with red wigglers. The pile is cool and wet and heavy. It's different than hot piles. I am not sure if they are any good for fishing but I know I got a pile of worms and the coyotes love them.
