A buddy just called and said its time to get up in the mountains. He went out this morning, and found chantrelles, king boletes, fire morels, oysters, maitake, and many more types. With the rain weve had this year, were expecting a bumper crop. I just called the wife, we will be going up tomorrow nite and spending the weekend picking and drying for the pantry.

Fire morels are large cream colored morels that come up in burn scars the year after a forest fire. The second year after the fire, the black morels come.

Are king boletes any good? There’s thousands of them everywhere here. Never gave them much thought.
