Mean nasty little buggers , bit the top of my left and right hands , about 20 minutes ago!!! OMG!!! Dang, this hurts !!!
Ground Bees stormed out of the ground while I was using the Weed Wacker.
When does this pain and swelling go away ??? I was doing some chainsaw work cutting shooting lanes. Was cutting down a small tree at ground level.Had one arm resting right on the ground but didn't realize my arm was laying right on a ground bee hole. They didn't like it when the chainsaw started vibrating their hive, and my arm was covering their only way out.Dont know how many wacks I got on that one little spot on my arm,but it was plenty.Just glad I didn't cut my own head off with the chain saw when I started flailing! LOL

I've many times dug into ground nests while trenching with my backhoe. i usually have enough time to bail out and run before they locate me but not always. When you see that angry cloud of bees/wasps/hornets boiling out you only have a few seconds to get far away. A few times I've let the machine run until after dark before retrieving it. The engine noise and vibrations seem to keep them agitated longer than normal.
Last weekend, while mowing an area I hadn't got to yet this year, I cut between the creek and a big dead limb that had fallen out of a maple tree. I clipped the end of it with the mower deck. Thankfully, I saw the cloud swarming around it before made my second pass.
Eh...wot?

I don't know why I didn't see the nest of white faced hornets when brush hogging. All I know was there a sudden swarming around my head and a hornet hit my left hand(I had a pair of leather gloves on). Just felt a small pick and I bailed off the tractor and run. The hit was like a stone hat hit me. The swarm circled for a couple minutes then disappeared. Got on the tractor and continued on. Being VERY aware of the brush.

Was a Foreman on a railway brush gang for a few summers.Lots of guys got stung on that gang cutting with the power scythes. I followed them with the chainsaw cutting the big stuff,I got stung less.Yellow jackets were nothing, just a firey sensation for a couple minutes then gone. The big black hornets were the worst by far. Those things would leave a hole in your skin after the swelling went down. Never had any problems on the section gangs since the brush was cut in the November window, after the swamps froze, and before track shimming started and after the ballast froze preventing track surfacing.
