Delaware isn’t much better! Private school is what I’m sending mine to.

My son went to a private (Catholic, I am not but my ex wife is) school til 8th grade, about 30 kids in his class.
4 years later my son and 2 others from that class graduated high school from a class of 200 or more as valedictorians
with perfect 4.0 grade points.
Coincidence, I think not. They instilled a good work ethic in those kids.
I do not believe the nuns where allowed to pound knots on their heads with a ruler like in earlier years.

I started public school in St. Louis, then after 6 years we moved to California. Instantly I could see a lack of respect for teachers, no dress code, and a much less serious learning environment.


My high school in CA that I attended in the mid 70's is now pretty much a mix between babysitting a juvenile hall.


Public education was a hallmark of the US.... not so much anymore.

X2 Chamacat. Our public education system is terrible. My kids go to a "good" public elementary school and the amount of time they spend on computers is nuts. Throughout the time my kids have gone to school several teachers retired or left teaching mainly due to common core, too much testing and too much computer time. Those teachers that left and or retired all said they spend a lot of time preparing for the tests then the testing systems are a wreck.

I guess I have always been an advocate of fending for myself. Why, when I chose to have one child, am I paying taxes for other folks children for the rest of my life?
Who invented this so called school tax? Why not just pay the cost of sending your kid to school? Ya got one kid it is 5K per year. Ya got 4 kids it is 20K per year.
They get out of school and you are done.

I agree.Problem is we have to pay for all the kids whos parents don't work or pay taxes.Might as well,we already pay for their housing,electric and food! Aint life grand.

You can pay for them to go to school...or to prison. Sadly sometimes it’s both.

And they don't even have to be US citizens.

A few years back there was a viral video of a man paying his property tax in change. He did it to prove a point that it's dumb to pay for something that he or his family isn't using. His kids don't attend public schools.

You sell far more goods and services to an educated populace. Thankfully our forefathers saw the value in everyone having an education so that we could become the most powerful country in the world.

An educated society is a national interest and essential for the defense of our nation. I do not have a problem with taxation for education. It will keep us free and safe.

Our Grandson Xavier has lived with Grandma and I since he was 2 months old. He will 12 in February. We send him to St. Paul Lutheran School. His class has 12 including him. Pricey but WELL worth it!!!

So,,you don't have a problem that your paying the education system to indoctrinate the kids into socialism now.And probly also have no problem paying high school taxes so illegals kids can go to OUR schools free of charge.Good for you,,,your very giving.

One of the biggest things that has made this country great is the free public education for everyone. We are allowing it to be ruined, not by liberal teachers, but by lazy parents who have spent zero time raising their kids. Baby-mommas and baby-daddies, accepting out-of wedlock pregnancies to be view as simply a life style choice, parents who never ask their kids about their school work nor having ever given their kid any kind of discipline, and now we have mommy, daddy and toddlers who never look away from the screen of electronic device.

Employers have always benefited from have so many people with a basic education here.

If I lived in an area with a lousy public school and had a good private alternative, I would have sent my sons there. They can get a better education because they are attending a school with classmates who have parents that care about them being educated.
Many who whine and complain about troubles in a school are the same ones who send chicken manure into the system and expect to have chicken salad returned to them.

The states with the best paying jobs are almost always the states with the best public schools.

gryhkl,,where you getting this FREE public education crap.My school taxes are higher than my land taxes each year and my kids haven't been in public school in over 12 years.If you get the FREE public education you speak of,you must not work or pay taxes.

Nothing in life is really free for most of us. And school boards need to be held accountable for where the tax money goes-Check into how much more is spent on "special" education students compared to regular ed students-----and there many, many more student labeled as special than even ten years ago.

The better educated the population is, the better off we are as a country.

I didn't mind one bit paying school taxes for the years MY kids were in school,,but once their done,Why should I have to continue.

Unless all the schools your kids went to were built during the years yours were in school other people help foot the bill that your kids benefited from.

education is the best investment we can make with tax dollars. if you cant see that it benefits people without kids as well I don't guess I can explain it to you.

if you want to talk about schools wasting tax dollars and kids not being educated that to me is a different topic and one that needs a lot of work. IMO of course
