Bought a Black Flag one (Newer style) it seemed kind of wimpy not the old sparky I was familiar with years ago. Then I found a old black metal one now that is a zapper it really lights them up quickly. I have been running them both for a few weeks and they are covered "just black" with bugs every night so I blow them out with the air compressor every day. The next day the 1/4 plastic drum end under the zappers has a pile of live bugs across the bottom about a inch thick that I dump out for the chickens to feast on.
Who still runs a zapper and do the bugs ever thin out by fall?

When I lived in Florida, I had the deer flies, san fleas, and 2 types of mosquitos … I tried several different zappers and they killed some, but not nearly enough fast enough. So I found this hand held fogger, that is electric … so you need a long extension cord. I waited until just before dark in an evening and sprayed everything plant, tree and blade of grass with it. It really puts out the fog. I t really worked, but the effects only lasted about 2 weeks if it rained everyday and 3 to 4 weeks if it only rain occasionally.
A friend of mine here in Ohio is having a lot of trouble with mosquitos and they can't go out from about 5 PM until the next day. He has been using the several of the zappers of some kind, but they aren't working. So going to see if I can dig it out of box in the basement and give it a try for him. Will let you know how it works in this climate. In Florida when I would use it, I would plan on an evening where there was just a slight.breeze and I could end up doing the whole neighbor hood from just doing my yard. I had a little over a half acre and live at one end of the street and the effects got clear to the other end of the street, which was 6 more yards.

I try to burn my burn barrel at night when the trash bag is full I figure the more I can kill the better so that adds to the zappers just not sure I'm gaining much ground as they just keep coming. Living 100 yards from the lake is surely not helping.

We’re not bug free, but free range chickens and ducks have had a noticeable impact on numbers.
Just watch where ya step

If you are having problems with deer, yellow, or horse flies then i had an old man tell me how he got rid of his problem. He took a big ball like a volleyball or soccerball and spray painted it black and hung it from a tree in the problem area. He coated it in auto transmission fluid ( if i remember right) and said it would kill them when they landed on the ball. They are attracted to heat so the black ball would get warm in the sun and attract the flies. He swore they couldnt even go out in the yard the flies were so thick until he hung up a few balls and now they dont have a problem.
It was either ATF or brake fluid, i cant positively remember.

I've got 2 blackflags just like yours lawdog. One in the front and one in the backyard and they're zapping like mad around dusk. It seems to be helping rid us of mosquitoes.

That Black Flag type was all I could find around here the other one was a garage sale deal they both zap but the old one sounds like it has 2-3 times the power of the new one.
