If it is the same one I heard about it was released back into the water and was just over 6 feet long. The boys caught it be the tail and pulled it to shore then released it. This is the story I heard.

Yep backroadsarcher, then the news said the DNR was trying to find it again to relocate it and I hadn’t heard if they found it or not.

Heard the MN DNR wants to catch it and then release it into Mille Lacs to solve the walleye problem

The story of those boys out being boys and finding/catching that fish is the best thing I've read in a newspaper in years! The last I heard the DNR hasn't found it again. They will likely blow a million dollars or so trying to find it and relocate it. Should just send the boys after it!

You're welcome. I love how excited the kids get, when the one boy gets the noose on the tail and they pull the sturgeon out.

That’s for finding the video KeithC, I looked but didnt find it, probably went right passed it, the boys were excited. Not sure if there is a size limit on them but I probably would have swung it up and made sturgeon steaks. grin

It looks like they were a little rough on the fish, but in all fairness the fish roughed the one kid up pretty good too...Had to laugh...Definitely a catch to remember for a very long time...

How did a sturgeon get in Minnehaha Creek in the first place?

The difference between animals and humans is that animals would never let the dumbest ones lead the pack.

I looked at the survey they did of all the creeks around that area and there was no sturgeon captured in their sites, but..........minnows do get dumped after fishing.

my bucket list is not yet completed yet.....

Minnehaha Creek drains Lake Minnetonka to the Mississippi River but Minnehaha falls prevents one from coming upstream. But Tonka is a HUGE lake where they could easily be present and unnoticed. One was recently reported to have been seen in Gray's bay where the creek exits.

Not the proper thing to do with a protected fish but what REAL kid wouldn't want to rope and drag one out and get a look at it, lol.

Fish do a lot of traveling more than one thinks. Back in the late 70s they tag Muskie above the Sartell (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) in MN. The fish had radio tracking devices. In 1 night one of the Muskie swam from Sartell (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) to Blanched (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman). Blanchard is in passable for fish. Easely over 20 miles by road. A lot further by river. Definitely could see sturgeon swimming a lot farther.
