My dad came the other day to borrow a 220, said he has a woodchuck. Today he caught his 6th one. There are single holes under 2 separate buildings. How many are there going to be? The last 3 have been smaller, like maybe littermates.

I have caught as many as 10 chucks from one hole. Usually around half will be young of the year this time of year. I used to be surprised how many adults I would catch at times from a single hole. What I noticed in this situation is there were quite a few other holes in the area not to far away, maybe under other neighbors buildings, in fence rows, or in a near by woods. It seems to me that for what ever reason other adult chucks from these holes would sometimes come to check out the hole I had a trap in and I would catch them. I usually leave a chuck trap set for 3 days without making a catch before I pull it. Even doing that a new chuck will often move in in 4 to 6 weeks. I have had good luck going on the offensive, finding these other holes nearby, and setting traps in them, and catching these other chucks also. By doing this I can get the woodchucks away from the original hole I was trapping. Usually though the next spring chucks will migrate back into the holes again. If I hit the chucks hard in April I can usually keep them pretty well at bay. Good luck.

I have found that if you kill one, ten show up for the funeral. A new pig will move in before the flies gather on the corpse. I'm constantly whacking these things all over my yard. I have shot one, tossed it down the hole, filled the hole in only to find the next day another hog has re-dug the hole and drug the other hogs body out. crazy Darn things are a pain in the butt.

Guess things are a little different out here in the swamp. I had one dig a hole under my trap shed this year. Place a 155 over the hole. About 5 days latter I caught the bugger. Filled the hole in and have not had any more problems. But being in the swamp I don't have much of a problem with them to begin with. Just a few here and there.

Hope I didn't just jinks myself.

Here a hole may have just a single hog living there .Or it might be a stopping point as they move around .I have had as many as 6 or 8 in a hole and 10 yards away that many more If they are left unchecked it is possible to have 30 to 50 on 10 to 15 acres of ground

We just started seeing them in the last 15 years. They sure can make a mess with their digging along foundations.

Y'all are either lucky or cursed. I rarely have more than one Chuck on a job. Might have one come back several weeks later but it's almost always single males I deal with.

I've killed a lot of ground hogs. There is always another one to take the place of the one you killed. I haven't ever won the game. I'm not sure I've even won a battle.

I once had one dig a hole under my shop. I bought one of those smoke bombs that is supposed to kill them in their holes - looks like a stick of dynamite or a road flare. I lit one, threw it in the hole and shoveled in the hole to trap the smoke. We went out to dinner. When I returned, all the dirt had been dug back out of the hole and my smoke bomb stick was standing in the top of the pile of dirt like a victory flag.

I do not enjoy trapping ground hogs. I have always thought that was what bourbon, lawn chairs and rifles were for. I think that is in the Bible. If it isn't, it shoulda been.
