Has anyone considered using this instead of grass clippings for there pipe sets? I know grass clippings are free but still have to go through the trouble of drying and storing. Just wondering if this would be a better alternative.

I just use some grass from the site. I carry a pair of heavy scissors that I use to cut into small pieces over the trap. Blends in better in my opinion.

Straw is heavy and large diameter.
Timothy is light and small diameter. Timothy is a better choice, in my experience. It can be bought by the bale, same as Straw, in my area.

Timothy is long stalk and used 'as is' or be chopped with a lawn mower.
A large feed bag full of Timothy, chopped two times by lawn mower, will yield a five gallon bucket.

A good source for 'chaff' is the hay loft floor.
Ask owner if you can sweep the hay floor. Take broom, shovel and something to carry it home.
