It's estimated that 1/2 of Millennials get a allowance today from their parents and many plan to never buy a house.

Are you sure its Millennials and not Gen Z?

Millennials are now in their late 20s and 30s. Granted I'm selective but most people at age are pretty hard working and industrious.

The only allowance this millennial had was, I was "allowed" to live in the house and do what I was told. If you don't work you don't eat, no free rides.

could be he means Z

I have found you can't necessarily compare Wisconsin kids to other places it just isn't apples to apples.

I see a lot of very ambitious kids and young adults , I am one of those who believes adult starts the day you turn 18 and not when you hit 27.

I work with several Millennials some are buying houses what I am not seeing is hardly any of them having kids. some are but very few.

when they do have kids they will likely be 35 before the first is born at the pace they are going.

this isn't a new trend the coasts are often a generation or two or three ahead of us in the decline of society.

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

I'm not a millennial and have a home. I'm sick of home ownership and would rather rent. Maybe mellenials are making a better choice???

My millennial in the family says my generation bought up all the housing driving the prices up. So they rent. The real reason they rent is they don’t want the responsibility of taking care of a house. They would rather travel and have been all over Europe, Africa, Central America. They don’t get an allowance lol, but do have great jobs. They also don’t plan on any children.

I'm a millennial at 30 years old, I doubt anyone even 10 years my junior is getting an allowance, but it probably happens. I'll be buying and moving into my third house next week. I dont still own the first two, but never rented any longer than I had to.

Think about where lots of millennials live though, many are involved in STEM jobs, which are seriously lacking in rural areas where most of the houses are for sale. Not too many houses for sale in NYC, Chicago or LA.

I wouldn’t be surprised by those facts, if it is gen z law dog is talking about. I’m 28 and I’ve been married 5 years and have a soon to be 4 year old in October and a 1 year old in December. We rented a house for a few years and then bought our house about 3 years ago. Wasn’t a lot of money in my house growing up, so there definitely wasn’t any allowance you just did what was expected of you because that’s what your supposed to do

Many watched their parents and aunts and uncles lose their rear ends figuring they could make money owning a home, a big home so they could downsize and retire in comfort. What the older generation did was invest in square footage instead of retirement monies, so know they work part time hoping to enjoy the end years of their lives. Now the young families are being blasted for waiting to buy real estate, raise families because they want more financial security when they do that, some will never have any appreciation for others if they don't live life the exact way they did. Post WW11 culture has shifted a long time ago and harder and further away each decade. The well educated youth with good service related careers can work well into their 80s if they want to and they can use money they earn and not hope the housing market holds or the stock market holds etc. etc. Their lives are more JIT (just in time) and they are learning to navigate that system very well. As stated above with 70% of the job growth in the large metro areas and rural areas actually losing employment this trend is only going to intensify.

Seem the target age they talked about was 20-35 from the way it went, you have to understand a person growing up in the country VS the city have 2 opposite growing environment expectations.

Hey wait a minute....I got an allowance: $1 per week...Until I was 12 years old. That's the day I started working and been working ever since for my money. I worked becasue I needed money to do the things I wanted to do...Not the case nowadays. I'm guessing that's the reason most of us got into trapping as kids. (was the driving force behind me trapping muskrats at 6 years old).

That said I see more an issue with the parents nowadays. The young generation is just a product of poor parenting as I see it. Kids now don't have to work. Their parents buy them everything they need...and then some.

Goes back to the old saying: If your kid is an arse, it's YOUR fault. Not TV, not guns, not violence, no society....YOURS.

There is a democrat running for the presidential nomination that wants to give every person $1,000 per month. He said this will spur the economy and give every person incentive to find a job. He feels this will more than cover the 2.1 trillion dollars it will cost.

I'm a boomer and I remember getting an allowance in the late sixties/early seventies. I had to have my weekly chores done; mowing the yard, weeding the garden, feeding the dogs, taking the trash out, etc.

I also remember making much more than my weekly allowance by wading in a local golf course's ponds in the spring and summer, retrieving golf balls and selling them back to the golfers. My brother and I would find hundreds of balls, clean them up and display them in egg cartons on a bench next to a T-off. Spaldings, Titlest and balls with the greats-of-the-day signatures (Palmer, Nicklaus) in good shape brought fifty cents a piece, others twenty-five cents and ball with scuffs or cuts a dime.

In the fall and winter we trapped muskrats, skunks, possums and weasels.

Eh...wot?

The man's name is Andrew Yang and he is talking about Universal Basic Income. Although I don't agree with his political philosophy in any sense his reasoning for UBI is somewhat compelling. If his and others predictions of how many jobs artificial intelligence will displace in the next decade come true, it's going to get interesting.

I Have 4 boys twins 18, 16, and a 13 year old. They have worked for every dime they have out our farm and feedyards. They have bought their own school pickups, Phones, toys, etc.. I’ve also made them aware of how fortunate they are two have parents and grandparents that can employ them. 3 of them cut 2000 acres of wheat on there own this summer. Hard workers, but I’m pretty dang sure there grandpa pays them a heck of a lot more then he did me!! I see a lot of kids their age that can’t run a broom. I think a lot of parents just don’t make there kids do anything. Stuck in front of a Xbox or whatever all day, so lazy 30 year olds doesn’t surprise me at all
