We have a spearing season through the ice in February and a catch and keep season in September on certain waters, as well as a catch and release season. I tried (unsuccessfully) spearing for the first time this year, and I'm hooked on those dinosaur fish. I'd like to try and get some through the ice this winter on hook and line.

SundanceMtnMan trapper S Joined: Feb 2017 Posts: 2,220 Priest River, Idaho USA	My son and I went a couple weeks ago. He caught a 73 incher and I caught a 40 incher. We fished near Kettle Falls. I have caught them out of Astoria and in San Pablo Bay in California but this was his first time. They are super good eating if you can catch a legal one. One time a buddy caught a six footer near Twin Falls, ID when I was there. I caught the largest squawfish of my life the same day. They are tasty for sure if you get a legal one.
