The Pro's play pre-season games and the high school teams play against other teams for a scrimmage game or two before starting their seasons. Why don't college teams scrimmage other teams before the start of the season?
I got myself a seniors' GPS. Not only does it tell me how to get to my destination, it tells me why I wanted to go there.

NCAA only allows so many scheduled games. Last year, Univ of NC wanted to play Univ of SC in a preseason game and give all the proceeds to hurricane relief in our states. The schools were told they would each have to drop another game if they decided to play the benefit game. This^ The N C double butthole has to maintain the student/athlete farce.

Why don't college teams scrimmage other teams before the start of the season? You should just message jbird. He knows every thing about college football, and for that matter , just about everything! I'm sure he'll be along shortly

Because no one would want Bama... Well never thought I would see this. One of the big ten teams has some hair on their #$@$ . Wisc has scheduled Bama during the reg season in 2024. As for preseason games Ncaa won't allow it as mentioned earlier.

I understand the NCAA doesn't allow it, the question is why? At the high school level they allow scrimmages, why not at the college level.
I got myself a seniors' GPS. Not only does it tell me how to get to my destination, it tells me why I wanted to go there.

Stakes are too high and tolerances too tight for playoff/old BCS contending schools to loose players to injury.
That's why you wait for the aeast to start and you schedule Appalachian State and hope you don't be the laughing stock of the country all season

I like to poke the bear about the Bama thing it just gets so many folks bent out of shape! I work for UA, and I tell people I used to be a Bama fan until I started working there; now I’m a fan of whoever gets the game over the quickest so I can go home.
Another issue with the schedule and all these crappy teams that people have to play is that you really do have a hard time finding quality schools that WANT to play you or that have an available date that coincides with yours. That’s why schools have to pay East Nowhere State $800,000 to come take a beating because they can’t find anyone else that will sign on.
I sure am glad to see the non-conference schedules getting better though. College football attendance is down, and teams are struggling to fill seats. Maybe that will help.

well at the high school level (at least in Ohio) the scrimmages are usually 10 plays on offense, then 10 on defense, they do this awhile then go 1/2 a game with 4 downs, very watered down. I'd say High Schools need to do this because many go both ways and hard to get a good look against a first team defense. College your first team is up against your first team defense. I just don't think they are as needed. As for Pro football, the answer is simply a money grab and starters don't play much if at all.
