Hello fellow Trapperman members. For the past few years I have been working in an old chicken coop skinning animals in below 0 weather. It started to get really old trying to skin and flesh animals with numb fingers. For another father-son project my dad and I have been working on re purposing our chicken coop in to The Trap Shack! Every piece of wood and metal is coming from old barns from around our area so we can keep this "local look". We have some very cool plans and ideas for the building and I will keep you updated as we keep working on them. I will attach some photos including the patina look of the metal and wood and what we have done so far. I hope you enjoy this as much as my dad and I are.

You did fairly neat job of insulating.

I like the idea of reusing lumber. Our family has a huge stash of lumber.

I'm pretty envious of your project, that will be a nice shed once you are done.

One thing about it, you had fancier chicken coops that the ones I grew up around.

Not to be a stick in the mud, but you would be better off with the plastic on the ceiling on the warm side of the insulation. Your insulation is going to soak up the moisture in the air like a sponge and will be worse than useless.
The walls are done right. I have a friend who does this fo a living. And have been yelled at for the way you have done the ceiling. He has shown me, were after a couple short years, the damage the wet insulation can do.

I really like that you have re-purposed the chicken coop and the old lumber and tin. I like doing projects like that myself.

I did question the vapor barrier (plastic) between the roof and the insulation to be different than what I've seen done before, but I'm not a pro. May check on it before you get too far along though.

Keep us posted on your progress. Nice size and cool project.

As for the vapor barrier on the ceiling, it is far from air tight LOL. We are just trying to cut down on some of the wind and increase the R value as we live in one of the windiest counties in the US. We had to reinforce trusses and other feats as the building was built in 1912. We are excited to get it done.

Looks like lots of space to work in.

Now if you can get it up to 50-55 degrees in the winter, good luck. All the heat goes up!

get a large ceiling fan to pull it down and circulate that heat.

UPDATE: Sorry it has been a long time but things have been busy around here lately. The Trap Shack steal needs the wood board put up on the walls and some finishing touches on insulation. But, it is already 15-20 degrees warming in there. Can't wait to see it when it is finished!

That piece I am pointing at came from an old barn so I am turning it in to a slot I can hang my fur from.

Nearly done with The Trap Shack! I just need to finish up the south wall and do some trim work around the windows. I'm planning on moving a refrigerator, microwave, and other stuff out there. All I need now is a bed laugh The re-purposed wood with the weathered tin turned out great!

Lots of room for a trap shack. How are you going to heat it?
