1:00 AM this Morning I heard a heck of a racket in the yard next door. This Morning , I go on over to see what happened. Neighbor tells me that his hen house got raided by a Raccoon during the Night. He caught it , and put it in a cage . He was going to kill it, but the WIFE put her foot down; and said that " THERE WILL BE NO KILLING OF GOD'S CREATURES!" Now, that is the SAME Woman who chewed me out after my GSP died, and flat out told me that "YOU ARE NEVER TO HAVE ANOTHER GERMAN SHORTHAIRED POINTER EVER AGAIN, I FORBID IT !! " So, I asked him "what did you do with it ?" He said " It's in the cage in the back of the truck, I have to find someplace to drop it off and let it go." I just rolled my eyes at that ! Then I heard that the Rooster met it's "DEMISE". Well, I guess when you put a Chicken Coup near a Creek, and the other side of the Creek is hundreds of acres of Woods; it was bound to happen ! On the good side, I can sleep at night without being woke up at 5 AM EVERY MORNING!

Acts 10:13 Then the voice said get up Peter, kill and eat.
Seems like God was okay with having his 'creatures' killed.

You should have removed it for him … took it down to the creek and see how long it could hold it's breath.

I can feel your pain. I've got corn fields all around my place, not a neighbor for 1/2 a mile in any direction, everything just perfect. The fox population was hitting rock bottom a couple or three years ago. Last year I was thrilled when I started seeing fox pups all around me. Update: Suddenly I realize my chicken population is down to zero, I haven't seen my only peahen for a few days, and there are only 2 guineas left. Yesterday I saw a fox 3 times in the daylight after those 2 birds. I really hate to waste a nice red, but it is getting to the serious side now. Mr. Fox, you have been warned.

some people are kooky
im pretty sure here in VA - its illegal to relocated to another property - but okay to kill to protect the chickens
part 2 - if a racoon breaks into your hen house, you need to upgrade your henhouse

MY hen house(coup) is quite secure.
Its just when "free ranging" they get into trouble.
I had 17 chickens two weeks ago. I now have 5.
I shot at a coyote twice now. He's pretty gun shy by now.

We was in the middle of Sunday morning service. A mouse runs across the floor. The preacher thru a doyle off a table on him and held the beast down till he could get him by the tail and held him up with the mouse trying to bite him. The preachers wife was screaming, "Don't kill him". The next question was what we going to do with it? I remembered seeing a pringle can in the kitchen and so we put him in it for safe keeping. The Wife asked if I would drop him off some place on my way home. I said I would, they lived about 25 mi. from there or I would have took it to Her house, lol. Well I took him home and called my two kitty cats. Right there in a wide open space I set him free.
Next Sunday, the first thing the preachers Wife wanted to know was if I had set the mouse free, to which I replied, Yes in a wide open space. Well the crisis had been taken care of and no blood had been shed in the camp. Later the Deacon wanted to know the particulars about the mouse, I told him the last time I seen him, he was wearing a fur coat, End of story.

3-4 years ago I was at a quarry getting a load of rock. Scale woman was outside waving her arms when I pulled up. Yelling about a mouse. I went inside found it and killed it. She was upset because I didn't just toss it out the door alive.
Foxpaw I don't know what to think about your tale. I know that preacher would have had a mad wife if I got my hands on a mouse in a pringle can.
