What is your opinion on type of nail for fur put up? Is there certain nails to stay away from?
Ya can't miss fur if yur traps are out somewhere. Or so I've been told.

2 inch box nails for beaver put up and 5/8 inch push pins for all other fur.

Anything against drywall nails? They're pretty sharp & thin.

They are to short for my liking re lifting pelt up after tacking and the their shank is ringed making pulling nails harder.

Boco, I like those pinning nails. I'm looking where to buy them online. What gauge would you estimate them to be? I see 12 gauge and 14 gauge pinning nails for sale online. Thanks for sharing any extra info on them. -David

Any chance you can throw a link up? I can only find a place to purchase em in a 50 pound box.

I could only find 50 lb boxes online as well. I'm going to stop by some local plant nurseries and see if any would be willing to sell me a smaller amount, if they've got them

A few staples and 1/4" screen works well on coon tails and otter tails. And you get the same results with a lot less work and sore thumbs. LOL

I know it's been awhile but has anybody had luck with a smaller amount of pinning nails instead of the 50# box?

I use wire nails that is about 2" to 2 1/2" long for all furs ,that is in place of push pins mainly, but beaver. I use finish nails on them. I had got the wire nails from a hard wear store not far from me, they where the longest that they had. Works for me for all my skins. I use cardboard on my coon and skunk tails. It take up the oil from them. Just use 3 nails , 2 on top at base of tail and one at the bottom. As for how Boco got his tail on the otter is the same way I do it with the wire nails. easy on my fingers for the length on nails.
