What is the best to use for hunting coyote at night, a red or green light?

It is more blessed to give than to receive

Can’t use light at night in VT for hunting but I switched my bow sight pins from red to green and also my head lamp for going into my tree stand. I found out the human eyes see green better than red. Made my bow sight much easier to see the animals at dusk the red pin used to blur them out.

The bitterness of poor quality last a lot longer than the sweetness of low price

Red is much less likely ro scare them than just using the yellow beam.

Maybe it is folklore but I am hearing more & more that hunters should use a green light when exiting/entering the woods. Supposedly it doesn't bother deer, but I kind of wonder. I've noticed an increase in the number of green lights for sale at sporting goods stores.

Long ago realized green is much easier to see.
Then yellow.
Then orange.
Red is last place for me to see with.

Long ago changed sight pins to green and yellow alternating.

For moving around at night I prefer green.

Lights for hunting at night have 3 colors easily selectable beam . Red, green, white. Of course white is brightest. Green is easiest to see. Red is less noticeable by mammals at night.

Must scan in a color, then continue through the shot in the same color. Changing color or intensity seems noticeable to the animal.

Nocturnal animals can’t see red light . If your using the light to shine on the coyote to shoot them use red .

Deer hunters used to wear red because most animals can't see it! Now they wear orange, same reason.

I prefer the green LED made by Wicked Lights. I have one that you can adjust the beam from pinpoint to wide flood. Very nice light. Battery stays charged for a long time.

I’ve been doing this for a long time. Probably killed close to 500 yotes on bait (127 out that window under a red light) and in my opinion red is much better than green. I use motion sensors and used to use ones that had a tiny green led. I’ve seen yotes key on that light and spook. Also seen yotes that didn’t care. Never had one spook off of red.

I'm itchin' to see a coyote twitchin'.

More trappin' and less yappin'.

I tried green once hunting hogs, the result was enough to make me go back to red. I was using light attached to bow.

I have game cam stills and video of coyotes reacting to the red "glow" of IR lights

Walking in and out does not take much light and I use white most of the time. I had a nice buck I was after walk to withing 10yds of me in the dark one morning while shining a white headlamp right at him. Wind was blowing from him to me.

Google spectrum of light colors.

Lately with led lights, there are new things to consider other than just color.

I dont know about coyotes - but coons under a deer feeder pay no attention to red lights. I have a red light on my shotgun just for coons. Last night walked up on a feeder. Two coons underneath and one hanging from spinner. I was 20 yards away. Waited until the two under the feeder got together and shot them both. The one hanging on the spinner never checked up. Walked up five feet away and blew his head off.
