Hey guys I did a extremely stupid thing. I am selling my house. I had my neighbor of thirty years ask if her tree removal guy could drive across my lawn to remove three dead trees near my back property line. She said she would repair any damage to the lawn. So I agreed and they drove in and removed the trees. Now I have about two inch wheel rutts. It’s been three days and nothing being done. I told her I know have rutts and she said we will have to look at it together and come to a agreement. I never thought she would say something like that. So I gotta move forward and try to fix the rutts. My thoughts are to run a lawn sprinkler to saturate the area and then roll it to try and remove the rutts. Any ideas or has anybody done this before.

Pcr2 thanks for the offer. Maybe I am jumping the gun but she went to the lake for a couple days. I’m hoping she will have them repaired when she returns.

Yes I had thought about filling with topsoil but like you said it’s a longer process.

Use sand. It usually takes a few applications and rake it in and the grass will grow right through the sand. I just went through this with a few ruts I had and works very well. I sprinkle sand in ruts and water and fertilize the area that you are filling with sand. Water it heavy and the existing grass will pop right through. Don't cut the grass where you are doing this at, because the taller the grass the more sand you can apply to get ruts back to level with the rest of the ground.

Thank You Snowy that’s a great idea. I do have some time to allow it to work.

We did a tree job a few weeks ago and it's been wet here the water table is high. Buddies chipper truck left some ruts 2-4 inches deep, I was thinking the black dirt and grass seed would be the ticket. The lawn had roots exposed so some other options were not considered. Lucky she said to not worry about the ruts but that might change.

My exact reply was going to be what you said … have done it many times … I always rake the grass with a lawn broom and get it standing tall and then you nailed … works like a charm. Garry-

I third what snowy and Actor have said. I used the same method in my yard in a place where I made a rut next to the drive way. Clears the problem up pretty quick this time of year.

Update I used two methods sand on the deep rutts and a fork on the rest . The fork instantly fixed the shallow rutts. I went back and lifted the deep rutts a little and they also look better and will continue with the sand in those. Thanks again for all the excellent help.

^ glad it has worked for you. Using sand is a process and letting the grass grow tall, and don't mow over it, helps speed up the time.

Got a new twist to the problem of the wheel rutts problem. I have stayed off them and not mowed over them and they are looking better. I went away to our camp as usual for the weekend. Upon my return I mowed the rest of the lawn. On the back corner of our property where the neighbor had three dead trees removed. I have a walking path that goes from our property to the adjoining commercial property and have permission to keep it mowed and use it. I have some large rocks that I have beside the beginning of the path which is on my property. I have always let the stones be covered with vegetation and always kept it about a foot high. Well apparently the neighbors could now see it from there back deck and they mowed the path with there mower down to its lowest setting and completely removed all the vegetation from the stones. Yet still haven’t cleaned up the sawdust or helped repair the wheel rutts. My neighbors son is getting married this weekend and they are having eighty people over for rehearsal dinner Friday night. They had asked about parking people at our place and I had agreed before the rutts and now the mowing and vegetation removal. I am at a slow burn now. I am going out today and finish cleaning up the sawdust and probably roping off the property line between us. We live in a housing development and only have 1/3 acre lots. But the set of B—S on theses people has pushed me too far. I will be informing them not to park anywhere on my property period and stay off my property. Now if they want to use the walking path they can clean out the hedges and old barb wire and stones from behind their property after they get the commercial land owners permission to do so. I hate to be this way but feel forced into action.

your going to start a feud with your neighbor over some vegetation and ruts? you better have a rethink. it never ends well
