I been looking at portable fish finders for kayak fishing. I seen quite a few in 100 to 150 range. Anybody use any of the cheaper sonars or know of any good ones. I got a Christmas gift last year that was was transducer and you used your phone for the screen. Don’t know the brand offhand and only tried it once. It said my 8’ swimming pool was 23’ and many large fish on the screen. Don’t want another like that. I don’t need any bells or whistles like my boat has either. Just something to show me the bottom but won’t hurt so bad when I break it or gets stolen. Any suggestions? Thanks....shane

When you earnestly believe you can compensate for a lack of skill by doubling your efforts, there's no end to what you can't do.

Always turn the Fish ID off on any depth finder you get.

I have a Garmin on my kayak. Won't tell the model since it's discontinued but they do make em that work off a small 12v battery.

I took a humminbird fishing buddy on a fly in trip. It works, shows structure and fish. Not as good as larger more expensive units but will get you acceptable results. Takes 8 AA batteries, which last less than 2 full days.

I have a Piranhamax 4 with a suction cup transducer for my jon boat and a pic pipe mounted transducer for my Sun dolphin bass buggy. I have seen several Youtube pic hacks for mounting the transducer to kayak's.
