Well looks like things with China are getting serious now stock market is going south faster than coons at NAFA. I wonder how it is going to effect the other markets grain, cattle, retail, auto things are going to be interesting. The two biggest economies in the world going toe to toe.

With the holiday season coming and retail sales at stake I see something coming from the September negotiations. I also can't see letting the farmers hang out there. Those folks take some of the highest risk of any industry to feed us and should be appreciated and taken care of. Also with the strong economy hopefully it won't make the retailers take a big hit during their biggest time of year.

By China devaluing the Yuan this weekend it will make Chinese imports into the US cheaper....offsetting the tariffs..... but will make our exports more expensive............like grain and machinery especially

Politics does play an important part in all markets and especially commodity markets as we are a major exporter of many. I don't follow many commodities but the grain, pork and dairy ones I follow closely.
Politics does impact soybeans more than corn for sure. Dairy waits for the new NAFTA to be released and signed but that seems to always be delayed.
Right now with the huge Asian swine flu deal that impacts soybean markets as much as tariffs. China has killed 100 million of their estimated 400 million swine herd to control the disease so there is a lot less need for swine protein feed at this time. One of the reasons they are working to own more US processing and packaging as we don't have those types of outbreaks here and they can find ways to increase production here with less risk than doing so in their own country.

Well corn market is not great right now but I think Im dumping mine now when I can still make some money on it. Bailed out of the stock market for the most part Friday and happy about that. Got most of my money tied up in grazing land so will have to see how cattle pan out. Will be the first to say I never followed tariffs much but this is crazy.

I don't know squat about the market but I did hear where we are looking to make a huge deal with the UK, maybe that will help.??

I agree a steady economy with very shaky legs no one knows what is coming next. As far as a buying opportunity I think that is a ways off. No one knows what is coming from us or China and the panic is not just in those two counties.

Wish you were right. The month of May was horrible also and wiped out earlier gains. June amd July built back up and wiped out again. Same with end of Octeand December last year. Been a crazy 12 months.

Never seen a fight where it did not get worse before it got better, the biggest problem is we are behind on producing what we need but we can fix that, we are so accustom to rolling on our backs and giving into other Nations for the cheap worthless stuff.

We still have about 40% of our investments and savings in mostly securities. We are now 71 and 70. In early June we moved about 35% into a more moderate risk and more cash based. We are at a point now where we don't need to accumulate assets as much and take the risks. Also at my age a deep trough could last awhile and one would be removing funds from a lot smaller capital base.
Might as well take advantage of the 0% capital gain rates up into the 60-70K taxable income range.
