The last 5-10 days the corn market has taken about a 30-50 cent drop in price. The last timely rains and the hotter then normal July to date with very warm nights has move the heat unit based crop much further along then anticipated based on planting dates. We are not going to set any yield records or will the very late planted acres contribute much but the bulk of the crop responded favorably to the recent weather. How much market speculators feel the last two weeks have improved the crop remains to be seen or bid I guess. The good news for farmers even more is that with very good weather the crop will mature and be higher quality feed and more salable.
This is mainly a central corn belt related market shift as those outlying areas that are short of corn will face the increased transportation costs which tends to raise local market prices.

Nittany, I have been hearing that $6-7$ for sweet corn at a produce auction. It's not a Chicago Board of Trade thing. Sweet corn is an animal of its own stripe. Thanks for posting.

See cash bids below. The basis for corn has shrunk from 55-75 cents to 25 to 30 cents. Lowest in a long time. To me it indicates we are anticipated to be short of corn here and those who will have corn to sell will be able to get the high end of the market whatever that will be. Beans still have a high basis.

That’s about what it is here for grain bblwi. Sweet corn last I saw was 6/dozen mainly because no one around here had time to get it planted.

A fellow farmer from Eastern PA says he gets 12.00 a bushel for his organic corn from an Organic dairy farm nearby.

I agree. I heard the other day that the Dept of Ag is not releasing predictions yet but others are speculating 150 to 159 bu per acre for corn with 80 million acres planted. Crops are all over the board here. Got some needed rain last night.

Just passin through

The USDA June report was for 166 bu per acre at 88 million acres down from a normal year projection of 175 bu. per acre at 92 million acres. If the above figures are correct then another 500 million to 1 billion bushels fewer then the projected 13.6 billion bu, down from a preseason projection of about 14.5 to 14.7 billion bu. I have not seen the market react to those lower estimates, but if these are closer to the real harvest there will be some upward market response.
