Who do you pay if you check-out your own goods? I believe I am paying me in time , as in not wasting my time waiting in a line.

you pay yourself? How does the store get paid? the store gets paid by debt card or cash the self checkouts will even take coin. I had one lady tell me that is how she uses up all here change she stuffs it in the self checkout machine then finishes paying whats left with the debt card.

one person for 4 or 8 checkouts if something isn't working you turn around and wave them over.
but 99% of the time scan item, hit pay ,slide card ,enter pin ,receipt prints and you leave the store with your purchase.

Ok, makes sense if ya pay with a credit card.
I hate getting behind someone paying with a card at the store. Seems like they never work and ya gotta stand there while they swipe it ten times and in every direction amaginable, lol. Several stores here charge extra if you use a card or they have a low limit to use one. I don't have a credit card but use the wifes if i buy something on-line. with most of the card readers updating recently to the chip they all seem to be working fairly well and stores are changing them out as needed to keep them working. faster her to pay with a debt card , the cashier will start helpong the bagger catch up while I insert card , enter the pin and then the receipt prints it will have everything to do with if they keep up their equipment. the small engine shop will go no tax 5.5% if you pay in cash and there are restaurants and such that won't take anything but cash but the grocery store there is no benefit to handing them cash vs using the debt card and if I have to carry hundreds in cash , why bother then I have to go to the bank an get the cash it is just more running aorund. I carry emergency cash but at the grocery store they couldn't even scan your items if the computer was down so no point there.

We're still in the stone ages here i guess. I do see more and more people paying with cards tho. The card companies call my shop fairly regular wanting me to use them, but i don't let them get very far before they get disconnected. A couple years ago i heard one out and they wanted 8%. I figured i'd have to raise my prices 10 to cover everything so i now just hang up on them.

Not as bad as getting behind a check writer with no ID. Walmart is pretty good on the check thing and give it back to you. I got started using a credit card every place after a Dollar General wouldn't take a check even if the cashier knew me without the shakedown over phone # etc. I was holding up the line. So I started using the credit card and went thru like a breeze. It cost them the extra but maybe not as much as in time and court hassle over bounced checks. Of course we the customer is paying the % for the credit cards. Another example where a few write bad checks and we all pay.

Am I the only one who absolutely refuses to buss them?
I've gotten to the point that I look to see if a regular lane is open. If all they have open is self check out with 2 to 4 people standing in front holding down the floor? Then game on! I grab a cart, fill it to the hilt with items from fridge, walk up to isles and ask one time if regular lane is open. If answer is no? Then I walk out. that's not nice Brian.
