You guys don't know bugs. Manitoba pah: child's play; try the Yukon Coast in July. There so thick they block out the sun. Plus did them killers not drowned? From the story it sounds like they had a row boat and ended up in the river. Isn't that why they needed the dive team. Details men details, trappers are suppose to be sticklers for them they tell the story. They were living out a video game you do not game over yourself due to bugs. Pah. The bugs of northern Saskatchewan have been known to carry away young children when the parents aren’t looking. They didn’t drown. They were found a km from the river and the boat in the thick woods. Dang details. Well, maybe they did drown. And then crawled to their deaths. Or maybe the bugs picked em off the river and dropped them inland?

You guys in no mans land don’t have the vegetation to support the bugs we have here. Your tree’s are pencils.

Um-your wrong Jurassic-been caribou hunting a ton on the border of the territories-and 411 has bugs like you have never seen-sandilands doesn't hold a candle to the bugs up north.Northern Manitoba insects are horrific at best-but I was very surprised how bad they were on the wide open tundra-black flies were relentless.Northern Manitoba bugs are by no means child play-not even close.

All the bitingflies hatch in water. So anywhere with muskeg-a lot of water everywhere, like the James and Hudson bay lowlands (think prime beaver habitat)have hoards of biting flies. The season is short for them here, june and early july being by far the worst time.Blackflies can get bad during the years we get an indian summer for a week or so,in late sept early oct also. There is another biting fly-a white coloured fly-out in the James bay that is worse than mosquitoes or blackflies for biting and numbers.I don't know the name of that fly,the Indians call it the whitefly. It is only in the saltwater and brackish rivermouths of the Bay,and far out on the Bay itself.

Mosquitoes are so bad here that doctors recommend leaving the stinger in until you get to the hospital.
