I use them all the time and prefer it. Brian should put on his big boy pants and worry about other stuff.
Just my opinion. Must be summer.
I'm hunting tonight so self checkout is off the radar. On King...this case is closed.
Pete You could very well be right? My wife doesn't mind using them either. I think my biggest problem is that there are store employees right there doing nothing. I think that's what really rubs me the wrong way? It most likely is a stubbornness thing?

I use them. They're smarter and more friendly than most cashiers in grocery stores. No offense to cashiers, I have met some really nice and intelligent cashiers. You know what burns me up. It's when someone pays for a cart full of groceries using an EBT card and then pulls out a wad of 20's to pay for his beer. That's a different subject all together.

Most people to ell !e no at one time is 4. 4 store employees just standing there who's only on is to tell you to check out on your own! What? It's a contest of how many actual store employees are present at lanes doing nothing who all in sync say there are no lanes open but self check out. 4 That's the most I've encountered at one time who answered the same question at once. Question: Are there any lanes open but self check out? Answer: no Another thing that bothers me is that the store isn't even busy. I'd like to say I'm sorry. But I'm not! I'd hand them a mop or something if I were their manager. Clean the glass, repaint the parking lot stripes, whatever!

Maybe it's just the appearance of store employees who's only job is to stand there until you need help doing their job? Heck, I'd have no problem using the self check out if something was going on, all store employees were busy, etc... But that is never the case! Are you the boss at the store? Do you write their checks? Maybe they are doing exactly what the boss asked them to do. Can I walk into your house and tell you, your wife, and your kids what to do? Throw your fridge on the floor and tell you to clean it up. Wink at your wife as I walk out.

I think there should be at least a small discount for using the self check.

I bet I had over 1000$ in the last cart I left them. Lol, maybe more? That’s great. I hope you had your “I’m trying to live like Jesus shirt on.”

As someone who worked retail for 20 years, let me explain that especially in the grocery stores - profit margins are very tight. Basically the only cost they can control is labor. As this minimum wage keeps getting higher, there will be less and less employees and / or customer service. Better get used to it. It's like 2% for most grocery stores and that's gross profit. Niche or high end stores can do better.

Yea, Im behind them looking at their tattoos holding my hand basket with 5 items in it cause I have other bills I have to pay for with no help at all. Its funny when I get behind someone I know from town and they try to palm the ebt card so I cant see it.

Your defination of gross must be different than mine. If i can't net more than 2% just for myself, i ain't doing or selling it. Restaurants barely get 4% gross. Food industry is tough to get rich in.

What is embarrassing to me is when I scan 2 many items multiple times using the self checkout. Wal-Mart was nice enough to let me correct my mistake a couple days later.

Must be, expecially at 2%.I guess they are in the hole when credit card companies charge more than that, and then they have their help to pay along with all the other overhead expenses. Sure your not talking net?

Rechecked with the people I talk to and it was the gross profit to THEM not the store itself.
