when I first started I trapped out of a car and had everything setup in the trunk. This was in high school. Was very careful how I stored my lures though.

I trapped out of the trunk of a Toyota tercel, yep tiny little 4 banger front wheel drive and I had a 4 speed manual. That trunk was deceiving...it would hold three blanket beaver quite easily along with my spade and check bucket. I lined the trunk with a blue tarp first then loaded it up. One time had four coyotes and three coon in it plus the check equipment. I got like 30 mph out of it, and that was back when I couldn't even fit $10 worth of gas in the tank when gas was under a buck.
Cheap vehicle to trap out of.
Now I just parked it in the little implement roads off side of road on property I had permission on, and hiked in, or pulled it over to side of road, but its was all I had and i made it work.
Trapped out of a Saturn for awhile too.
Little green tree air fresheners, my wife kept me stocked up.

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

I have a '07 Ford Focus wagon. I lay a tarp in the back for critters, works out well till heavy snow then switch to the truck. 33 mpg vs. 18 mpg makes a big difference.

I trapped out of a car, as other stated line the trunk with a tarp and be careful how you store lures and urine. Also, if fleas and ticks are an issue for use consider keeping a box of trash bags and put the critters in the trash bags before you drive. + you can spray them down with flea spray and get a head start that way.

don't get stuck. you have to walk a lot. cant haul a lot in todays mini cars. you need a 4 door. dead stuff in the trunk and trapping gear in the back seat and on the floor. probably ought to remove the backseat but I never did

There's guy that traps out of a Toyota wagon. He'll load tharvthing up with so many crittrs the bumperbis nearly dragging. He loves the MPG on it. I don't think he does anything to protect the car. You can smell it quite a ways away but it don't thinkbhe uses it for his own personal vehicle.

I had a ford escort hatchback years ago. I wasn't trapping lot so putting a few coons in there wasn't a big deal. I drove 90% of the time with the ball seats down so it was like mini truck. I put two deer in it one year. I did out a tarp down for that trip home.

I started with a Nova, couldn't find any Trapping related picture with her, but I trapped with her.
Here is my second vehicle, Pontiac Ventura II, made do with the trunk. I use to wire skunks to the CB antenna for the ride home.

I put skunks in a trash bag and shut the trunk on the bag so it hung off the back outside the vehicle

Totes worked great too, wolfy. I had some that fit sude by side in my tercel trunk. One for animals, one for equipment, and my checking sets bucket. I used a small plastic clean peanut butter jar with screw on lid to keep skunky lure in when it wasnt in the check bucket. Helped keep the skunk odor from the trunk.
Also, good floor mats and protective seat covers were helpful. I do remember changing from boots to waders a few times while sitting on edge of the trunk, because it was a challenge to work the clutch and brake in that little car with bigger bulky waders boots and those little pedals. Well, that plus the muck on the waders.
I do remember the first truck I got though, thought it was a huge upgrade for trapping!

These are my two main trapping vehicles. I take the van when setting up because I can haul more gear into the field. I take the Subaru when checking. The catch goes into the trunk where I have a plastic liner from the bottom on an old stove so nothing leaks in the trunk. Is it ideal? No but you need to trap with what you have. The mileage is good

I have always liked coyote trapping best. Biggest drawback to car trapping for me , (other than limited cargo space) was lack of 4wd. I used a small jon boat on the river. I padlocked it to a tree while trapping and could tie it on the roof to haul it. Roof was scratched up some but that boat was light. I ran a rope to each bumper and side to side was accomplished by tying off to the front seats through the window. Car is not ideal but it is lots better than a bicycle and canvas newspaper delivery bags

Awesome, Danny.
I remember my folks dropping me off at one end of a section. I had a big old backpack and walked in to check, they would pick me up on other end, about a mile to other road. One year beaver built a dam about half way and I couldn't decide whether to haul a big blanket back to the starting point or go forward and bring it with me. I decided I didn't want to double back to check last half so I carried/drug that big thing to other end. About 1/4 way to other end I had two gigantic coon caught on trail near base of a massive old cottonwood. Backpack, big beaver drug along off my left had, and two big boars on my right hand. I remember stopping every 10-15 yards and sucking wind, and being late for my rendezvous at other end. Last check was another coon set off the deer trail and it had a big old male red fox. Wowee my best check day EVER! Now I was way bogged down but couldn't wait to see my dads face with this catch. I pushed on, hands and arms so sore after dragging that stuff. I looked up and saw dad coming toward me on the old deer trail I had been walking out on. He was worried about me, and was coming to find me. No cell phones back then and it was getting dark. He kept yelling my name and I yelled back, he came running and said oh you are OK... but then he smiled when he saw my haul and said wow kid, you are now a real trapper. All that went into trunk of our car. I was beat.

Used a Mercury Marquis, senior year in high school. Took the backseat out ,put in 3/4"' plywood. I only had classes till 11:00 am and I ran traps before school and after I got dismissed for the day. The trunk was huge in that car. A lot of good memories.

I've trapped out of quite a few different cars in my life, even off of motor scooters, back in school days. The best car type rig I ever used was a Subaru station wagon. Used two different ones for six or eight years. Down side was the fleas off the critters you hauled home, the upside was good miliage AND those darn things would go anywhere! I hauled 18 carcass yotes home once, and blew the torsion bars out of the rear of it. Next day, put in a new set af bars and was up and running again! Went out of state a number of years with them too, never a big problem! Built a box in the rear that was fiberglassed on the inside to haull the critters. Got lots of stories I could tell, not gonna bore ya though!

Used to trap out of the trunk of a Mercury Cougar.Had a 351 Cleveland in it.I could get to my road side culvert sets right quick in that.It would pass everything but the gas station.LOL,,I much prefer my four wheel Silverado and my Honda Foreman now.

I should dig around see can I find some of the pic's shot with a 110 if that helps date it.. Trapped out of a 1975 Toyota Corolla 2 door and it seemed tiny.. Had my brother who was metal worker build me a lock box for the roof.. I still have that box in shed haven't used it in years.. Clean traps when in box on roof, dry dirt, setting things and some gear in back seat..Fur and dirty traps messy things went in trunk. Would have been great if it was 4x4 had to be careful about where we drove. Thing were different then though and a lot of old time farmers wouldn't let us drive in lot of places. So we walked more and set just the best spots..
Was fun and we made it work and the car got great mileage. I always thought a Subaru station wagon would be great trapping rig.

I have 2 4x4 silvarados 1 4x4 yota my vehicle of choice is my Camery I stick a kids pool in the trunk .i kill 3 to 4 hundred coons a year and 6 to 8 dozen yotes ton of others it's awesome my car has seen more corn and bean fields than most combines if it can't get me to where I'm going I probably didn't need to be there. I'm long gone and the guys in the trucks are still trying to find a place to turn around or get off the road.

I trapped out of my 2014 Subaru Outback a few times when my truck was in the garage. Road trapping for mink or beaver was a breeze. For canine trapping I used those rigs that turn a five gallon pail into a screw on lid. Those rigs I kept my clean traps in. Also used one of the screw on covers to store my lure/bait/urine bucket in. The old lady never once complained about odor so it must have worked ok.
The seats go down giving you quite a lot of room but it was still a tad congested.
The milage was awesome, which was a blessing with the low prices. If the weather was dry or the ground frozen you could go just about any where if you used common sense. I have been severely stuck a number of times with a pickup but by being cautious I never got stuck with that.
