Ok I used Andy's Speed Dip on my muskrat traps 4 weeks ago, using Coleman fuel thinning it even more than recommended (not reg. gas) and the are still very tacky. Who can recommend what I could do? Should I buy more Coleman fuel to soak them in it & try to dissolve it and start over? I've never had this problem before.

Buy good quality mineral spirits. Not the cheap stuff. Test by wiping some on a piece of wood. Should make the wood look like you applied a finish for a few seconds. Then dry completely in a minute or less with no evidence you applied it. It is not all the same. Don't buy the cheap stuff. You can find it at Walmart occasionally but they mostly sell junk. Go to a dedicated paint store is best. Put two gallons of mineral spirits in a five gallon bucket. Add 3 cans of speed dip. Will dry in 3-4 days in cold weather even. Keep a good lid on it and it wont turn into a big lump after it sits a year either. You can dip a LOT of traps in it. Even new traps. New traps wont be black but it will inhibit rust.
I still dye with tannic acid for my dirt traps
dip is for water traps

dip is for water traps Good advice for next time, yes I been told before that Walmart stuff on some items or things like auto parts is cheap stuff, but those traps should be fine for in fall, I dip mine with old saved up leftover dip an mix it with latern fuel, pretty thin when dip awhile back

Off topic but I prefer using the oil based barn and fence paint. It dry's overnight, is cheaper and as durable.
I don't cut it because I want it to be a medium to heavy coat and critters don't care if it runs. Paint does a good job of sealing whatever is underneath it.

Ok thanks guy's. I decided to roll out some black plastic and lay them all on it hoping to bake them in the sunshine maybe getting them to dry a little be faster.
