I recently moved and had a number of Rubbermaid totes laying around the house. The dimensions are very similar to some of the leading cat cages on the market which got me thinking. I decided I’d see what I could make them into.

First I put two holes in the roof so I could hang an attractor. Screw driver and a hammer did the trick.

Then as many people prefer a walk through I simply took a jig saw and opened up both ends. Tall enough a cat won’t have to crouch, and just enough to bed a foothold on both ends.

Thanks for sharing. Have thought about doing the same thing. Interested to hear how it works out.

I have used Tracy Truman’s silvervine and prefer tea bags. With the two holes you can easily hang the tea bag. Silvervine in the tea bag and your choice of lure smeared on it. I also plan to hang one of his enticers directly over the set. Here’s the bag hanging and a look through the cubby.

Then I plan to stake the cubby down, cover with brush like you would a cage, and place it right on the bobcats travel routes. Then I’ll put a foothold on each end on drags so the cubby isn’t destroyed. I have also pondered some sand preseason to start a toilet inside. I’m only going to run 5-6 of these to try them out. Figured may as well use what I have. You could also only open one end and make a true cubby, but I’m leaning towards the walk thru

I would have left that lip all the way around it, a cat is going to explode that in cold weather when it gets caught.

Only worked one up so far! I’ll do that on the rest. Makes sense

Should work pretty good. I've tried the brush pile walk through style, this would make it easier to construct.
I'm convinced my Silver vine powder doesnt have enough gull fruit in it(got some pre ground). Tested it on all the Neighbor hood cats over the last year.. None give it attention very long..
They do however stick like a magnet to Quality bobcat or fox Urine, it seems Everytime and give it a good nosing..

You gonna stack brush on top by attractor or leave it plain tote? I can see a cat jumping up on it too.
Thanks for the post wade.

Yep I plan to brush it in. Make the top less than ideal to jump on. Where do you get your silvervine? I get mine from Lazarus and it’s the ticket. My cat will just lay there for 10-15 minutes happy and visit it multiple times. Here she is after a couple trips thru. 75% of my cat catches last season had silver vine in a tea bag. Gone by the time I got there.
