Good enough to ride on the front of the four wheeler for shooting prairie dogs or the occasional coyote. Price can determine any justification.
I have a Ruger American .223 that spends a lot of time on my wheeler.
Plus you won't feel bad when you take the rattle cans to it and paint it camouflage.

I have T/C compass that will shoot a .250 group... I replaced the stock trigger with a MCarbo bench trigger. Gonna do the stock next.. For the Price its a good cheap rifle that shoots straight. Stock is plastic and cheap.. Boyds makes replacement wooden ones which will make it a nice looking rifle. I bought it for 299 with a 75 dollar rebate, for that price I cant complain.

I have one in 30-06. Comes with a cheap plastic stock(but plenty sturdy enough to work FINE) and has a threaded barrel. The threaded barrel is a good $100 value there if you plan to use it. I paid $280 after rebate for mine. I have tried 3 loads all 3 shot groups from a bench. 165gr nosler ballistic tips .5" group, 168gr barnes ttsx .3"group, 165gr sierra gamechangers .26" group. I have the target on my bench to prove it.After those groups i havent tried to do anything else i just loaded up the ammo i wanted and left it there. It has a rotary style removable mag, i ordered a second one for back up. Its a fairly light rifle and a perfect hunting rifle. Cheap enough to take some rough treatment but not built cheap enough to break. The trigger it comes with is pretty heavy but decent enough, i switched out the trigger spring for a premade one i got from amazon Old beaver gunsmith or something like that. It does improve the trigger pull alot but the gun will not be drop safe while in fire position. The safety disengages the sear in the other two positions so dropping it then is not an issue. I absolutely love it and it is my #1 hunting rifle now. I own several other wayy more expensive rifles but the TC is the most accurate of them all. If i find a drop in trigger i like i would easily make that upgrade. Boyds does make stocks to fit it but they will cost you as much as you paid for the rifle and I have seen they have fit issues that makes the magazine not seat securely and you will have to do some DIY bedding to make the mag stay in place and function correctly. I know some people that have the equivalent model rifles in ruger and savage and they arent nearly as accurate as the TC and built just as cheaply. One thing i have noticed watching people make reviews about them is that not all the calibers shoot accurately, usually something hinky about the throat lengths or other issues. But 6.5 creedmore, 30-06, 308 have all been getting good reviews. I know the 300wm was having issues with accuracy. But they do have the 3 shot 1 moa guarantee from TC so if it doesnt shoot straight send it back in and get them to fix or replace it until it shoots right.

I wouldn't classify it a garbage rifle at all. I've got one in 6.5 creedmoor and it shoots well for me. From what I've read on here (I lurked forever) and other hunting sites it does perfectly fine. It's not a pretty wood stock but it gets the job done the same as others do. Far more than 1 out of 10 shoot pretty good from what I've read. Last fall sighting mine in at 100 yards my last 3 shots taking my time I could about cover with a quarter. Next to me at the range an older guy had a compass as well in 6.5. His son has one that he said cost about 3 times as much and his comment was his cheap gun shoots as well as his sons. A dead deer is a dead deer where I'm from whether it's with a budget rifle or a $1000 rifle it doesn't matter. Are you looking for a show piece or a hunting rifle only you can answer that. I honestly don't want an expensive fancy rifle. I'd be PO'd if I leaned it against a fence to crawl under it and it got scratched or the random barbed wire from old fence lines pops up that I seem to find on my hikes through the woods. I guess maybe that's why I stuck with a 303 British for years and still carry it sometimes. I'm not sure that gun will rust compared to the poor metal and bluing you find on most guns now.
The Compass has been talked about here several times. T/C has rebates quite often. They're usually $50 to $75 off. What can you pick it up for if I can ask? This one is going to be $285 brand new. I just thought I’d ask because it seemed too good. I’ll make it work....I’d like a gun to be able to reach out to the 500-700 range. This one is in 6.5CM.

Buddy has one in .243 and replaced his with a Boyds. Shoots very well with Hornady superfomance. One thing about T/C, even on budget rifles they have a good trigger.

My friend is selling them out for $249 each. His Wholesaler bought what T/C had left (14,000) as they were making room for a new model coming out. Good rifle for the money, but also not my cup of tea either.

Seeing that you measure a group center to center and not outside edge to outside edge, yes.
