Found a Montgomery wringer washer in a building on some new property. It’s I good shape. Transmission is good just needs cleaned up and topped off. Only problem is no motor. If anyone has a old Maytag, Montgomery, etc.. I need to know HP and RPM. I’m assuming 1/4-1/3 HP and 1700-1800 RPM would do it, but not sure and I can’t find anything when I search on my email machine. I know the early models came with a gas motor, but by the looks of the mounting plate it was electric. Thanks

Theres a Maytag collectors club site that should be able to hook you up with the info and parts source

Sorry I missed both the questions from Bigfoot and Trapper!

I contacted the Maytag club like Bigfoot suggested. Thanks a million Bigfoot. I found out the motor had to be 1250rpm. Not being rude to the Maytag guys, but I’m always amazed at the difference between people on here and other places. I appreciate there help.

Last week I covertly slipped to the fur shed over 4 evenings (I’m supposed to finish the inside of the new garage before any trapping related activities) and took it apart down to the last bolt. I split the washer and wringer gearboxes, cleaned and repacked them with grease. The India rubber rolls were cracked and uneven, so i had to put them in the lathe and clean them up. One of the most interesting parts about it was. Where the shaft comes though the tub. It uses the same packing as our water lube irrigation wells. I put new packing in it, and found a old 1725rpm motor. Figured the rpm and pulley size to get it to 1250rpm. Filled it with water and a couple of the cowboys old towels they use when working cattle and turned it on. I can’t believe how good it works. No leaks good to go.

Trapper I’m planning on washing furs with it.

Pawnee, I'd recommend that you experiment with which furs you wash. Coyotes should benefit from it usually but I've used a washer on a lot of raccoons and it's awful bad to really dull the appearance of the fur.
There's alot of tricks to making hides look their best and everybody has a different opinion. I just know sometimes a lot of work makes things worse instead of better.

Maytags you could change from gas to electric, I watched my Uncle swap motors on a couple square tubs once. Pulley and belt length changed, just as you adjusted you 1725 motor.
