Thinking about getting a varmit gun... I have decided on a 22-250 since I already have the die set but was wondering if there was much of a difference in any of the Remington guns. They have a model 700 SPS varmit,SPS,VTR,VLS, model 7 predator and I'm sure there are plenty of model 700's and 788's out there. Too many different models. Anyone have any of these they would comment on.

I have an old 788 in 22-250 that is pretty accurate.
They haven't been made in quite a while so if you find one, check it out good to make sure the barrel isn't shot out.

.22-250 is a great coyote gun. I have it in a Tikka T3 and it's a tack driver. Sorry, I'm no help on the Remington guns, but before you buy check out on-line reviews, they are not all that great for new Remingtons from what I have seen. Maybe they make a great version though, I just haven't happened to hear about it yet.

I like the 22-250,I do not like the newer Remington’s at all. The x mark pro triggers are absolutely terrible. I would go with a tikka or savage model 10 before the Remington.

I have 3 Remington 788s, one in 22-250. Once you have the triggers cleanup they shoot great. As Boco stated make sure they havent been wore out.

My cousin has the Remington varmint in 22-250. Heavy and I don’t think he’s gotten a decent shooting group out of it but he’s hung up on shooting one type of ammo, Winchester’s in a black box, might’ve been varmint ammo. I have a Ruger Predator in 223 that I've been loving, light, accurate and has a threaded barrel for suppressor, magazine is crappy(only negative about whole gun). Wish I bought the model that accepted AR mags,

I would find a 788 or older 700 Remington or Savage makes a good gun also.

Ditto. Mine is 40+ years old and is about ready for retirement. Just bought a 700 SPS because they make left handed versions.

I have a Remington 700 bdl in 22-250 that I absolutely love. It will be 16 years old this winter and has killed too many coyotes to count not to mention deer, bobcats and hogs. Never had it be anything more than accurate and reliable. I have been a diehard Remington 700 man my entire life. That being said when I started looking for a new deer/elk rifle this year I ended up settling on a bergara b14 timber instead of a Remington. The new Remingtons just do not feel right or look as well made as they used to. Definitely not the type of craftsmanship that is present in my older 700's. The bergara has an action modeled off of a Remington 700 action and a factory adjustable timney trigger. It is a beautiful weapon.

VaT, todays "Remington" and quality just don't go together. There are way better options, far more reputable, dependable options, such as either Bergara and Savage; both are known for their out of the box accuracy. Before you pull the "trigger" and buy a NEW Remington, read and read the reviews.

Laz, sorry about the left hand deal, LOL cry

I have a 700 vs. Bull barrel in 220 swift. Always shot great and has the older trigger which was easy to adjust. Bought it in 2001 or so.

I’m fairly sure I have a LH Timney trigger for that 700, if you’re interested?

Where were you two weeks ago??? :-) Just bought a new thumbhole laminated aluminum pillar stock for it and a Timney. Appreciate the offer though.

Get one with light barrel contour if you are walking much.

Good gun. Good caliber.

if you were hung up on REM then the model 7 predator , unless you sit at a bench and shoot prairie dogs your likely going to be walking miles with the rifle in a day , so many of the varmint guns get built very heavy and that is just no fun to carry.

what are the odds your going to need to shoot more than a few rounds if your chasing coyote , so you don't need a overweight barrel to dissipate the heat

for very similar money to the Rem you can get a Tikka lite x3 in 22-250 and it starts at just under 6 pounds adding an optic depending what you add you could keep at or under 7.5 pounds

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.
