Anyone lay the top layer of jars sideways to get a bigger batch?

My mother narrowly avoided disaster last summer when the entire top blew off the canner. Put one portion through the solid oak cabinet upper cabinets and a beach ball size hole in the kitchen ceiling. Not to mention a brand new puke green smelly ramp paint job across half the house. Thank GOD she had just stepped out into the yard for a minute when it happened. Be careful!

Trash your goals and plans for life. Just wing it and you'll never be let down!

some canners you can stack quarts others you can only stack pints

but they need to stay vertical stacked or not

you just need another canner and keep rotating batches

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

They do make one just a bit bigger that you can stack pints in. I got the one you have first. Now I have both, the slightly larger one you can stack pints in, and my original that I use for smaller batches. The smaller one comes to pressure faster.

I've got a double that you can stack two rows of quarts or three rows of pints. Huge time saver, but only use your canner how it was intended, they need to be respected for sure.

I wonder if tap dancers walk into a room, look at the floor, and think, I'd tap that. I wonder about things.....

First I've heard of those Tinknocker. If you have used them speak up. Cost? What is different about them?
I've been reusing seals for a long time without trouble.

Yes, I like them OK. I like having them around for when I run out of one time use lids in the middle of a batch. You can re use the Tattlers as long as you don't damage the rubber gasket when removing lid.

So glad your mom was ok. BUT that may be why it exploded you have to STAND AND watch it every minute and decrease the heat if pressure starts to rise above safe levels

GREAT thing to have on hand. It doesn't seem like much to buy a box of lids, but if you ever come to the place where you're broke and trying to survive, having reusable canning lids on hand would be a real blessing. I only have a few dozen, this post reminded me I want to buy more. The only downside to them is that I gift a lot of canned goods, and those lids are too expensive to be giving away. But as for canning stuff I don't plan to give away, they can't be beat. Just be sure to follow the instructions, as they're a bit different than regular lids. You don't tighten the rings quite as tight....

No way did botulism kill a family that fast unless they ate tainted food and then all sit at the table for a few days.
