So ,I see on the news this morning, there implementing a gunshot locator system in cities ,or zones to identify a gun shot and able to pinpoint the location on a premises in that targeted neighborhood.
My first impression is here we go for the Gun grab. in a slight ever so slight side-note, it may help some poor soul eventually.

Milwaukee has had it for awhile. It helps the cops but the liberal DA plea bargains all of the gun charges down so the criminals only get a wrist slap and return to the streets. It must sound like a popcorn popper in Chicago.

Seen it on CSI type shows, that's it.

They have one in Peoria and it seems that it works fairly well to help pinpoint where shots come from, in turn making faster responses

We have it here in Peoria. It goes off all the time and the police get there fast. So far it looks like it gets them to the scene faster and then we are seeing more shooters getting arrested. I like it. Not a gun grab here- we have concealed carry and the police tell us they want us to carry.

Pittsburgh has had that for years, mostly worst neighborhoods implemented first. Still shootings about everyday, don't know that they catch any more people. Probably does help in that police are notified sooner, and probably many cases shootings would not be called in at all by the public. And they do find guys laying in the street shot, that nobody called in.

We use it and we actually saved a gunshot victim last weekend as a result. Get WAY more notifications of gunshots through the system than we do calls from the public.

I don’t see it as a gun grab but I’m sure they will figure out a way.

like Cory said it can get police there faster but if the DA just turns them loose back into the same neighborhoods whats the use.

I think a system that coupled the shot direction with video would be much more effective , one of the issues with taking video as a police agency in WI is the length of time you are required to keep it and the storage needed to keep it. as I recall minimum is 120 days , but reality is it needs to be kept through any trial and sorting needed from unneeded video is a burden on labor.

if they could couple a buffered video feed too the shot direction system so that if the she shot activation occurs a 3 block capture of the video from 20 minutes before to 40 minutes after the shooting it would only require one hour of video at a critical time be stored per camera in that radius.

however if the DA still turns them loose all the good tools in the world can't fix that issue.

Too many Americans have taken the "mind your own business" position to mean ignore your fellow man even when he needs you help. Some neighborhoods must count on machines to report murders and attempted murder.

They used the technology in the 1st Gulf War. Acoustic triangulation. The used it to stomp out mortar and rocket fire.

For all the good it's doing, they've installed them in N St Louis in the "Triangle of Death", but they're only accurate to within a few hundred feet. I guess that get's 1st responder's to an area to look for the body's.

They have them in chicago I seen, watching the news, not real far here, lots more cops hired on in chicago for all shootings. Shot spotter, it called, activates cameras, in some hot crime areas, were lots patrol , cops can be on scene in minute, an see shooters on camera, lot shootings are done in alleys or gangways. An shoot out into street or sidewalk an get away undetected

Had it here for awhile. Not a gun grab here. Here they are very accurate normally. Within feet and immediate. They only go up in crap neighborhoods to help the police respond to victims faster.....and shooters.

in a city you can't expect any where but the bathroom to not have a camera watching you just that most are private cameras and unless something turns up missing the video is deleted automatically.

but it seems like a much better idea than trying to take the guns from Millions of law abiding Americans , set up the shot detection and cameras gather evidence and put the people responsible for the killing in prison , don't let them out .

Well, from the past where camera's and such didn't exist it seems law enforcement did there jobs and were able to respect our privacy. They worked. Maybe instead of giving up the 4th and other rights to falsely protect the 2nd LE should get off there dead arses and put leather soul to pavement. It astounds me how people are willing to trade one right for another. The way some of you view this is tantamount to modern day England with it's reliability on camera's encroaching on all citizens privacy instead of the the few rotten apples. If we help just one person lol.
