Saw a kit at Academy sports today on the clearance rack, for training dogs to find antler sheds. A large plastic antler, and a squeeze bottle of some kind of crap to spritz on it.

Every kid needs a Dog and a Curmudgeon.

Remember Bowe Bergdahl, the traitor.

Beware! Jill Pudlewski, Ron Oates and Keven Begesse are liars and thiefs!

I gave my pup a few sheds from this spring and he's been chewing on them all summer. I would think by next spring he won't have any problems finding them.

Common sense is a not a vegetable that does well in everyone's garden.

Had a guy from Nebraska stop once with one and he got quite a few sheds, as far as I’m concerned people can pickup as many as they want, tractor tires are very expensive.

I also play catch with him and toss them into the taller grass for him to find. He's only 7 months old but showing good potential. Won't find out till next spring I guess.

My dog chews on real antler sections, they last a lot longer than rawhide chews.

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

I have 2 dogs I am in the process of trying to train to find sheds . The older one is 3 years old and the younger one is just seven months old. From the time I first got them they have had an antler to chew on full time .And they both chew on them a lot .If nothing else it keeps them from chewing on things I do not want them to chew . At random I will tell them to find their deer antler .Without fail they will start walking around the house til they find it .At different times when the dog is in the house I will take a shed and dragging it through my yard. Then get the dog and say find your antler once we are outside .The older one has found one antler while out searching for them in the spring . Considering her age and amount of time actually looking I am sure I am on the right track. At this point they have almost trained themselves

My fiance has a basset hound and as a puppy we gave him antlers off of road kill deer. This spring he found a couple sheds and the one must have been a few years old judging by it's condition. I never realized how good of a nose a basset hound has.

I used a rubber antler and some horn wax to train my German shorthaired pointer and it worked great, the guy I bought him from told me sometimes when they are young and use real antlers that they'll get poked or hurt and it'll cause them to not want to mess with them, by the time he was 6 mths I switched to real antlers

If you want a dog to search out and find an antler in the woods first it needs to know what an antler smells like. Then it needs to associate that smell with a positive reward experience. Keep your scent and other scents off of training antlers. Set the dog up for success when training. Make them use their nose and not rely on their eyes. You can do this by placing an antler under grass or train at night. Not all dogs noses are created equal.
