The man had his problems. I've been sitting here listening to his songs. Truly a gift from God. That man had talent, I'm sorry he isn't here to bring us all the joy of his voice and music.

Oddly, I find his voice almost haunting, almost like he is still with us. He has that legacy in his voice and music. It always sounds like we are sitting around a campfire and the dude across the fire has a guitar .

Many of John Denver's songs sound like blessings to me or hymns to nature.

Saw him in concert one time. He was the first person on the stage and the last one to leave. His band took a break but kept right on playing and singing. One heck of a good concert!

John Denver is a goofball and you guys need to watch a John Wayne movie, chop down a tree, and eat a unicorn.

I went to his concert in Lincoln Nebr. It was one of the first concerts ever in the Bob Devaney sports center. The seats were no installed yet. You just sat on the cement …. like a bleacher. Fire marshalls were all over making people keep the isles open. Later they said it was the most people that will ever see a concert there because with no seating more fit in. John Denver came out first and let his band have a break mid concert, and then he was the last to leave. I think it was about a two and one half hours.... maybe a little more.... concert. This was in the late 70's.

I like his songs , his personnel life is his ,too many singers have great songs, but look at there personnel life it make you wonder of who they really are. Like stated he had his problems.I remember when they say when he died. It happened to others but not get as notice.

I used to listen to him all the time, then for some reason, not so much. I don't think he made it from cassette to CD in my collection back in the day.

A couple years ago my middle daughter and I were stacking fire wood and listening to music through her phone and a speaker. She asked what I wanted to hear next. Out of the blue I asked if she had any John Denver. She found some then said "WHY AM I JUST HEARING THIS NOW, THIS IS AWESOME!" LOL He's in her regular rotation now.

His song "thank God I am a country boy" is a classic. Classic amount of disrespect for the people feeding him. I am glad I don't have any of his talent

He was the biggest reason the assualt on Colorado took place, all the Californistan movement to Co. IMHO. Liked his voice, had a clear high voice, could hhit the high notes. Never liked the person, his rocky mountain high doomed Co.

My Wife was a fan of him . I took her to all his concerts in this area .If there were two shows we went to both of them . We went to Aspen on our honeymoon .It was during the Winter and his band was playing at one of the restaurants in town,of course we had to eat there . Went to Jasper Alberta on vacation, and saw the Andromeda glacier . She did not like how his music changed in his later years . Always liked his early stuff .

I remember so well loving his music all through high school. Had every album (8-track) he did. I can recall in 1977 driving like a maniac down mountain roads in my 69 cutlass singing at the top of my lungs I AM THE EAGLE I LIVE IN HIGH COUNTRY...

Life was so simple in those days.

I like his music. I also like that he (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) off Nashville back in the day when he won some award.

Very good song writer with a voice to match. He was also a great acoustic guitar player. Not much talent like his in the music business today.

In my opinion, the lyrics to Annie's Song are the best love song lyrics ever written.

You fill up my senses
Like a night in a forest
Like the mountains in springtime
Like a walk in the rain
Like a storm in the desert
Like a sleepy blue ocean
You fill up my senses
Come fill me again

Come let me love you
Let me give my life to you
Let me drown in your laughter
Let me die in your arms
Let me lay down beside you
Let me always be with you
Come let me love you
Come love me again

I have never even had a second favorite to that.

He was a staunch environmental warrior, and leaned to the left if you consider a lot of the pro-environment rhetoric of the 70's, but he also liked hunting pheasants, and was known to hunt and eat elk. As for all that environment rhetoric mentioned......it's that stuff that cleaned up our lakes and rivers, plus had a large impact on overall just making people much more aware of pollution and how we were really messing up the natural world. We're still at it, but not as bad as we were 50 years ago.

That was my favorite as well. Too bad he didn't remain true to the words when it came to his marriage to Annie! frown

Great talent, but kinda flakey. He actually was grounded and banned from flying when he was killed.

Yep! I think the generations coming into their own now will do better than we have recently.

Annie's song was one of the songs at our wedding. We have made it 40 years, too bad he didn't.

Patrice this is a great song, one of my favorites, but have you ever listened to the duet he did with Placido Domingo called "Perhaps Love" ? There is a great video of Denver and Domingo in a recording studio on U Tube. I seen an interview with Annie Denver and she said that "Perhaps Love" was just about her favorite song ever sung by John.

Great lyricist and love song writer. Maybe the best love song writer ever. Had a great influence on me. After "country Roads" was a hit he was just starting to gain fame. I remember seeing him at the Student Union Building in Bozeman, Montana in the fall of 1969. We sat on the tile floor and there couldn't have been 500 of us college students there. One of my all-time favorite singers. He could put me at peace.

Great song writer and excellent singer and performer. Never was really respected by the music industry as many felt his songs were too soft and idealistic. That actually became is signature niche. His personal life was complex and he had bouts of depression and substance abuse along with relationship issues. I listen to his music a lot these days and actually enjoy his songs more today than I did 45 years ago. He was a very exacting and demanding musician and his music had many complicated and difficult chords etc. to compliment is the range in his singing voice. Quite similar in some ways to complexity and range of Roy Orbison and Marty Robins.

For an anti hunter... he got busted for shooting a neighbor's dog with a pellet gun when He lived in Aspen.

I did like a lot of his songs but like somebody else posted, I was too busy listening to Led Zeppelin and the Allman Brothers. If I was trying to go home with a gal then John Denver would be OK.

Loved it when he was called to testify before Congress back when al gore was trying to get decency ratings put on record albums. He stood up for the artists and told them so in no uncertain terms.

What I liked about John Denver is when he would sing you could understand every work.

Denver was a dweeb, a total lightweight, and much better music was being made back in the day.

Well he sold over 10 million records. That’s pretty good for a “total lightweight.”

To each his or her own man. I couldn't stand Wham, but when I heard Freedom, and seen the video from George Michael I loved it. Denver had talent!

See, It all started with Denver, now you like a Wham/George Michael song....This can't be good!

Immediately listen to all of the records of Merle Haggard, then go drink a fifth of Wild Turkey, and get in a fistfight.

You might can still pull out of it, Lol.

Each of us don't have to like the same things, but to me if one wants to disparage someone using facts may be the appropriate choice. So in the eyes of many he was a light weight but there were "heavy" purchases of his music for many decades.

Country Roads is still a fairly relevant today. I would say most people my age know it.

I gotta be in the right mood for Denver, Neil Young, and McLean etc. But I will take Marshall Tucker Band, Allman Brothers, and Grateful Dead any day.

I was at Boys State in Ohio in the summer of 1980. We had a talent contest one night. One of the guys at boys state came up on the stage with his guitar and sang Country Roads. He just nailed it. The place almost turned into a riot of I would say 1,000 kids wanting nothing more than to go home. I will never forget it. I sure wanted to go home after that song. It took a lot to get those young men back under control.

Prisoners was my favorite. Not so much for the lyrics or his voice, but musically it is complex in its riffs and intro.

Indeed, those lyrics are most beautiful ! I agree , Patrice . The kind of people we are, we live life to the full, work hard, feel deeply in the details .

For myself, a most loved song that rings into my heart , is from Alison Krauss and John Waite, and the exquisite , beautiful way it was presented to me . Once in a lifetime ....to grasp in deepest reverence and appreciation .

Life is good .
