That was my favorite as well. Too bad he didn't remain true to the words when it came to his marriage to Annie! frown

Great talent, but kinda flakey. He actually was grounded and banned from flying when he was killed.

He was a staunch environmental warrior, and leaned to the left if you consider a lot of the pro-environment rhetoric of the 70's, but he also liked hunting pheasants, and was known to hunt and eat elk. As for all that environment rhetoric mentioned......it's that stuff that cleaned up our lakes and rivers, plus had a large impact on overall just making people much more aware of pollution and how we were really messing up the natural world. We're still at it, but not as bad as we were 50 years ago.

Yep! I think the generations coming into their own now will do better than we have recently.

Annie's song was one of the songs at our wedding. We have made it 40 years, too bad he didn't.

Patrice this is a great song, one of my favorites, but have you ever listened to the duet he did with Placido Domingo called "Perhaps Love" ? There is a great video of Denver and Domingo in a recording studio on U Tube. I seen an interview with Annie Denver and she said that "Perhaps Love" was just about her favorite song ever sung by John.

Great lyricist and love song writer. Maybe the best love song writer ever. Had a great influence on me. After "country Roads" was a hit he was just starting to gain fame. I remember seeing him at the Student Union Building in Bozeman, Montana in the fall of 1969. We sat on the tile floor and there couldn't have been 500 of us college students there. One of my all-time favorite singers. He could put me at peace.

Great song writer and excellent singer and performer. Never was really respected by the music industry as many felt his songs were too soft and idealistic. That actually became is signature niche. His personal life was complex and he had bouts of depression and substance abuse along with relationship issues. I listen to his music a lot these days and actually enjoy his songs more today than I did 45 years ago. He was a very exacting and demanding musician and his music had many complicated and difficult chords etc. to compliment is the range in his singing voice. Quite similar in some ways to complexity and range of Roy Orbison and Marty Robins.

For an anti hunter... he got busted for shooting a neighbor's dog with a pellet gun when He lived in Aspen.

I did like a lot of his songs but like somebody else posted, I was too busy listening to Led Zeppelin and the Allman Brothers. If I was trying to go home with a gal then John Denver would be OK.

Loved it when he was called to testify before Congress back when al gore was trying to get decency ratings put on record albums. He stood up for the artists and told them so in no uncertain terms.

What I liked about John Denver is when he would sing you could understand every work.

Denver was a dweeb, a total lightweight, and much better music was being made back in the day.

Well he sold over 10 million records. That’s pretty good for a “total lightweight.”
