A few years back I posted about my good experiences buying shooting and reloading supplies from Midway USA. I said they were great to deal with.

Since then my opinion has changed. Last summer I ordered three boxes of Nosler 28 brass, which was then listed at the sale price that was ten bucks per box cheaper than regular price. The product was out of stock, but Midway said that back orders were welcome. So I back-ordered, and waited most of the summer--during which time Miway's online catalog continued to show the sale price. The brass finally showed up last September--they had shipped it at the regular price. When I inquired, Midway's rep told me the sale had ended. So in other words they advertise a product for three months, without having that product; then when the product finally arrives, it's "Whoops! Too late. the sale is over."

What a crappy way to do business. I told them as much, in a civil email, but never got a reply. They clipped me for thirty bucks, and rather cleverly too, but it cost them a good customer because of it.

So I tried Gunstop Reloading, and they want to gouge me on shipping and a $5 "handling fee" their terms say apply to orders under $25. My order was $200.

I wrote and complained, but what do you bet they won't satisfy me at all?

My experience with gun shops and shooting supplies is in direct contrast with my experience with trapping supply companies, which will bend over backward to make the customer happy.

Anyone know of good sources for shooting supplies?

Jim

thats a shame they did that because my experiences with Midway have been good , I would have figured they make good on the sale price since that is what your ordered at.

Brownells is the other I use

if you make an account and login you get on the email list your notified any time they have the free shipping over 49.99 purchase of qualifying items they let you know in the cart if it qualifies.

I have heard good things about powder valley but not used them.

Is interesting you say that about Midway...Several years back when I acquired my Grand Fathers 32-40 Winchester I was searching all over for ammo or brass.. Midway showed new brass in bulk bag on there site. I don't remember what the price was but it was a bag deal of like 50 pieces for so much. So I punched in and order fro a bag figured give it a try. It popped up as out of stock... So I did the back order thing with them saying would notify me when item came in stock.. Well that was like I say several years ago. I never heard a thing back even after I check couple different times to see if the back order was still posted..
I found someone who could reform 30-30 brass and load it for me so just forgot about the Midway order.. I still get some e-mails about sales and stuff but the 32-40 brass been long forgotten.. That is my one experience with Midway...
I used to load lot shot shells that was before internet got big. so everything was bought locally.

I would continue up the ranks and talk to the reps boss, all the way up till it was taken care of. Post each and every response and let them know you are!

Good service is not always delegated by a name brand company, sometimes you have to search out smaller outfits to get better deals.
It is time consuming but I have found it to be at least half way better.

I have had nothing but great experiences with midway and its usually my first stop when looking for stuff. I never back order though in stock or check somewhere else but thats because im impatient. I have ordered from graf and sons and had great experiences too. Grafs is usually powder and primers and midway for everything else but midway now carries powder and primers and has sales where they waive the hazmat fee like grafs does.

Eighty million plus gun owners HOPING to find fair and honest dealers and suppliers?? Maybe the rest of the 250 million who don't firearms are correct to say we need some oversight when those in the industry can't or won't even police themselves. Something for all of us to think about as the demographics shifts over time even more.

I like Graf & Powder Valley, but they both suffer from the same problem: limited selection compared to Midway. Sometimes Graf has some unique items however. Midsouth has the same limited selection problem, Those 3 do have excellent service in my experience. I avoid Cabelas & especially Natchez as much as possible. I check others usually before ordering from Midway. Also, Midways prices are not as much of a bargain as they used to be since they have all the "free shipping" and the multi-million dollar shipping facility to cover in the cost.
Brownells has the worst website in the business.
