1. Has anybody rebuilt a four stroke outboard and how hard is it? I'm looking at possibly rebuilding a 2004 Johnson 15hp.

2. Where is a good place to buy a remote steer outboard in 15 hp over the net.

He you got it real cheap. Never rebuilt one. Bought a blown Evenrude once to get the lower unit.

Hope you have a couple of oars on that deal.

Used to have a 2000 50 hp Honda. Timing belt broke. I'm not a great mechanic on cars, but researched it well online and was basically like a 3cylinder car engine. I just did the top end. Didn't touch the pistons. I got carquest to go through the valves. Set the timing and it fired right up. When tearing down take pictures with your phone for when you go back together.

I usually go to www.iboats.com for the advice of hundreds of mechanics and tens/thousands of owners

I also found parts there for a '41 Johnson and '58 Evinrude.

I'd say it's a few steps above you tube video diy stuff. Lots of things he knows that aren't apparent.

Thanks for the replys guys. I think im gonna try and do a rebuild this winter on it. Gonna take alot of pics and will check out iboat.com also if, I, get in a bind i'll also ask my neighbor he has a hot farm pulling tractor he has rebuilt a few times should be able to give me some advised.

Great, with his help by the time you have it running it will be great for mowing grass.

You might have a hard time finding parts for something that old.
