My yard is being over run by crab grass. I sprayed it twice with a product from Bayer that says it kills crab grass, but it doesn't. it did kill other weeds, but didn't phase the crab grass. Has anybody found a way to eradicate this invasive grass?

I'm thinking I will have to try a pre-emergent next spring.

Eh,.. it's green, and fills in the dead spots, it all gets leveled out when you mow, The big problem with crabgrass is that it's an invasive annual. Crabgrass outcompetes and kills the more desirable perrenial grasses. As soon as the crabgrass has seeded or the weather turns cold enough, the crab grass dies leaving a bare patch until it comes back from seeds in late Spring to early Summer depending on where you live in temperate North America. On my farm, I don't treat my lawn or worry much about its appearance. When I lived in town, I kept my lawn relatively weed free, weed whacked, edged and mowed much more frequently. Keith

Use pre emergent twice in spring. Probably April and early May for Minn.

I live out in the country and cut about 2 acres of lawn. I could live with the crab grass, but the little woman can't. Pre-emergent it will be come spring. Any special brand that's better than most?

Find a lawn landscape supply business near you and avoid box store stuff. For 2 acres you will need around 8 50 pound bags, shoI’ll run around $20 a bag. If you have any large bare spots you might want to round Up those areas quick then fill up and plant some grass before it gets to late in the fall. Two things you need besides preemergent is to get your grass thick and don’t let it dry up. Any bare spots and any cracks and crabgrass will find it and preemergent won’t always work

Are you referring to a pre-emergent treatment or now while the crabgrass is flourishing?

If you have big bare spots you need to try and get them filled in now, also you will probably need multiple applications next year, we do our customers may first and June first and if they are bad again in July. Also a dealer will have a herbicide that will kill crab grass but not regular grass but they are most affective when crabgrass is young.

Been using Cimarron it's the only thing that I have found that kills fireweed and it looks like it takes out the crabgrass also. Check it out spendy but it goes a long ways one capful treats 15 gallons of water.

Q4 plus will get a couple types of crab grasses, but is very effective for broad leaves. Tenacity is pretty good for crab grass. It may take two spraying though. Tenacity will turn it white . It is expensive.
