Congrats J.morse. How many tags do they issue for elk in mi yearly? Last several years they have issued a total of 200 per year. They are split between the early season and the December season. Each get 100, and those 100 are then split 30 bull (actually called "any elk" tags you can use on whatever you want to hunt), and 70 "antlerless tags that are only for cows/calves.

good for you J. Morse. I'm very happy for you! What a dream come true.
About ten years ago I got to take a horseback trip in a state forest up there and the guide led us out to find wild elk. That was an adventure I'll never forget. Ever since then I've dreamed up hunting elk on a horseback trip in northern Michigan.

Heck I didn't know Michigan had elk........ We were completely without elk for somewhere around 44 years.....nobody is sure just when the last Eastern Elk was shot in Michigan, but the DNR always says it was around 1875. The ancestors of our current elk were brought in from Yellowstone and relocated, in 1918, near where I shot my bull just east of the town of Wolverine. .
