The giant root borers are even bigger than that, if memory recalls. Good catch you have there ! I was at a friends home years ago, they left their screen door open as we were enjoying the evening....and one of those root borers flew right in the kitchen , landing on their table ! It was huge with formidable pincers . I wasted no time in grasping him behind his head , and in holding him up in observation, we heard it squeaking in irritation, lol .....all those bark beetles, longhorns, root borers voice their disdain when held against their will .... When you catch them, listen for their loud complaining ! I just know Jack can share such interesting facts on this family , also

Prionus beetle family with antennae clumped like that, Root borer probably lived on some sage for the last 4 years. No sage for about 200 miles here in the North Woods.

We have those things too...ugh... Also heard them called wood roaches. See them a lot in mulched flower beds and pine straw during the summer time at night. The spawns of Satan fly too, which ads a degree of difficulty to my escape and makes my girl-like screaming a couple octaves higher as I run away with that weird high-kneed run that you do when you feel like the things are crawling on you whether they actually are or not!

What do you set the pan tension at if you want to trap those things? Or do you use snares?
