Only 18 states in the union pull their own weight and helpbthe rest of the freeloaders. I think the other 32 states need some serious reform or get cut off. What state do you live in? Anyone surprised by the list?

KS produces a lot but it has a lot of agriculture. Ag puts a lot of states into the parasite column.

It was on sale for 1.49 a gallon. No way it can be produced and sold at the amount. I'm not sure of the true cost of milk but its got to be close to $5. Also....maybe if food was more expensive people wouldn't waste as much.

I'm surprised by Pennsylvania and Ohio. They produce so much I would've thought they were givers and not takers. This is only one slice of a larger picture. There are other ways states contribute to the overall health of the nation other than tax dollars, like providing items for subsidized federal programs and materials for infrastructure projects. So they very well could be breaking even in other areas, we just don't see it in this picture because it only examines one issue.

The main thing that should jump out at you off of this graphic is the data for Washington D.C.
Good point and nice catch.

Yes, but that shouldn't be surprising. The federal government is pretty much Washington DC and parts of Virginia.

Western states are mostly fed lands with small population, similar to mid-western states where it's lots of Ag. land. Military bases in states with little manufacturing/population and so on. Then there are states that are packed to the gills with people and many companies having their headquarters there.

Income tax is driven by................TAXABLE INCOME!! And offset by deductions and credits.. Hence tens of thousands and more pages of targeted tax codes.
I've learned enough thru the years to now know that I don't know enough. KNOWLEDGE IS FREEDOM.

Some of y'all seem awfully defensive.
Be more like Wisconsin...or.....gulp ...New Jersey.
