I'm posting a lot about 300 win mags.....

I now have a Browning Hells Canyon Long Range in 300 win mag. 26" barrel, 1 in 8" twist. I'm wanting to shoot Barnes 175 grain LRX bullets. In their load data https://www.barnesbullets.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/300WinMagForWeb.pdf the found RL22 to be the most accurate. However their test rifle had 24" barrel and a 1 in 10" twist. I'm thinking I should start out with RL22....it's what the recommend and I already have 3 pounds since it's what I load my 6.5 Swede with. Thoughts?

My 300 likes H1000.

Don't be affraid to go longer in bullet with that fast twist.

I appreciate that. I really like Barnes bullets. I've considered going for the 200 grain LRX, however that's such an enormous bullet for everything. Also the 175 is a little flatter. I welcome all thoughts.

As you are going with the lighter bullets, the RL is built for that. The heavier bullets in the 220 class work best with slower powders. The only additional thought I have is make sure you hit a not meaty spot as that load drives like a pole axe punch. That 165 to 175 in the 30 caliber rifles is bad medicine in blowing through opposite hams and shoulders in boys I have seen made a mistake on moving targets.

My mag likes RL25 best. When first got it tried 19,22, an 25. Got best velocity and least pressure with RL25. Just my 2 cents.

I'l second H1000. Also BMG 50, and Magnum. 300 Win mag likes slow burning stable powders. Look up The Real Gunsmith on youtube. He has a video on load development that talks a lot about the 300 Win mag. He also addresses primers. I think you will be surprised.

The RL22 will do everything you need with 175-180 I’ve loaded 19,22, H4831 H&IMR 4350 H1000 22 & H1000
Shot the tightest groups and had the lowest standard deviations.
And again a huge congrats on your once in a lifetime tag.

I've tried various powders for my 300 Win Mag, but keeping coming back to IMR 4350.

My favorite recipe: W-W cases, CCI magnum rifle primers, 70.0 grains IMR 4350, and Nosler Partition 180 grain bullets.

James, I also use the WW cases. But I'm using Winchester standard rifle primers. I use these primers so I would only have one primer in my cabinet. I load for a .270 as well. The removable mag on my browning limits how much I can stretch the OAL. I did file it about an 1/8" to get a little more. It's an excellent 500 yard gun and probably more depending on the shooter!

We almost have something in common. Mine liked the Nosler's but with sixty-eight (68) grns. of 4350.
