Forget fireworks this holiday weekend! A spectacular all natural light show is set to take place Saturday and Sunday evening.

The Aurora Borealis is coming to a sky near you if you live in certain parts of several northern states, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

The Aurora Borealis is a common sight in Alaska and close to the poles, but isn’t usually seen in the Contiguous United States.

NOAA says this weekend’s northern lights are occurring due to geomagnetic strom activity.

You will be able to see it in parts of Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Michigan, Wisconsin, New York, Vermont, and Maine, according to the Geophysical Institute at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

Increased geomagnetic solar activity Saturday night means an increased chance at seeing the northern lights! Get somewhere dark, and keep an eye to the north. With clearing cloud cover, you might be able to view one of Mother Nature's wonders!

Watching the Aurora Borealis has been a favorite of mine since I was very young I hope I showed them off to my kids enough for them to show them to the grandkids. I've seen them showing off until dawn's early morning light if that helps.

Just got back from an Alaskan cruise. Was looking forward to seeing them but then seen we would be in Vegas during the show. Not surprised we were not able to see them at all. On the flight home from Vegas to Ohio last night, I told the wife we were sitting on the left side. Once above the clouds I thought we'd see them but didn't. Bummer. One of the things I'd always wanting to see.
