I see some 68 grain .223 by Frontier w/Hornady BTHP bullets.
What's the usual call for barrel twist versus a light bullet (45 grain)?
Would the 68 grain do the job on a deer?
Lots of advice here.

A 62 Barnes TSX does a good job on deer and hogs. I have not loaded those Hornady bullets yet. The 123 Grain Hornady SST to well in the 6.5 Grendel. i think Remington sells loaded ammo using the 62 TSX under the name of Hog Hammer if that helps. As far as barrel twist goes , those weights do fine in a 1:9 but I shoot a 1:7 and it works for 50 grain and up. On the lighter end, the bullet can't be a thin skinned varmint type as they will not hold up to the high rpm when you push the velocities a bit

I have the Bushmaster .223/5.56 E2s. My thoughts are whether the heavier bullet is okay out to 150 yards? I don't need a bullet flying all over.
My shooting distance is short at best when deer hunting. So heavier bullet at close range.

1 in 9, 1 in 8 and 1 in 7 will all work fine. The 1 in 12 is for lighter 45 grain stuff.

Its stamped on the barrel usually. It should be a 1:9 if its the original tube on it

From what I just looked at, most of the Bushmasters are 1-9 twist.
Good for a heavy grain bullet.
THANKS all.

The bthp is their match bullet. They are designed to poke holes in paper. Meaning that they could blow up on impact, go straight through like a fmj or anything in between. If you only take head/neck shots this would be fine. Otherwise I would go with the barnes bullet. Just remember there will not be much of a blood trail (atleast the couple I tracked).

you want the 64 grain power point or one of the bonded or copper bullets like the Barnes triple shock.
the 60 gr american white tail Hornady
the 223 has plenty of energy , the better bullet composition is about getting an exit wound .
55gr SP work but seldom exit
I shot a nice buck with a 55gr sp worked great but zero blood trail for the 25 yards till it fell over . lungs were shredded.
shot placement is critical neck or slip in the ribs getting heart and lungs , try and avoid shoulder plate although it would still likely work with a better bullet.
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.
