Do you have to report your large game shot to the DNR, Wildlife team etc.? I am talking about deer, bear, elk, antelope, mule deer or special permit game.

Yes, Always, every time.

Game management is only as effective as the accurate data it receives.

People Biatch about how ineffective game managers are

but then refuse to provide them with the necessary data to do the job.

Mo started a "Noodling" season at the behest of a few fans, lasted 2 yrs and cancelled, because they couldn't be bothered to file the paper work, likely because they didn't want the state to know how effective it is.

I have always reported my required game. Now I have the HuntFishNY app on my phone and report from the woods. I don't have to be concerned about remembering to report and what not because I have proof that it was reported. Kind of neat too that it keeps a history of reported and unreported tags.

Most game harvests here including furbearer have to be reported every year of you held a hunting or trapping license. Failure to do results in draw applications to be removed from the pool

So conservation officers rely on us to tell them how the wildlife populations and wildlife health are and want us to tell them what we see in the outdoors. Then they tell us the rules and regulations of hunting said wildlife because they are oh so smart sitting in an office in the city. Ok then.

Harvest reporting is a small piece of info and they must be careful how they use that data.
A low/high harvest could have nothing to do with the number of animals on the landscape-they have to take into account effort and numbers of hunters in the field and for how long, among other variables.
High gas prices for instance or bad weather could limit effort even though the animal numbers may be high, the harvest may not indicate that. And vice versa.

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

oregon is reporting on big game and trapping and monetarily punishing you for not -- most is online and not a big deal -- geese they get kindof stupid on.

In NC we have 24 hours to report. Lots of people do not bother. I report.

Yes. I was talking to a game warden a few years back and he said the NC Wildlife knows a lot more bear are killed than are reported. Which is true. He was saying that's one of the reasons that they don't up the bag limit to two a year. The science is in the numbers.
