This idea may be off the wall, but If the United States could rebuild Europe after WW II with the Marshall Plan, why can't a country as rich as the United States do the same for storm ravaged neighbors? We send a lot of "Foreign Aid" to countries that do not like us, why not spend that money on our friends?

That place was demolished. 1000's of bodies everywhere. The guy on fox news said it smelled like death, you could see bodies everywhere and no one was in a big rush to take care of the bodies.

There are only 43 dead people in the Bahamas as of 1 hour ago. There will be some more, but nothing close to even 1000, much less thousands of bodies everywhere.

The United States is spending millions to help the Bahamas. Cruise ships and planes have brought hundreds of people to the US, where they will probably stay.

Yup

Sad! But the truth.

From what I understand: there are already armies of relief on the way.

From my understanding (a day or so ago) thousands were missing.

The U.S should not go it alone. Trump should demand other countries help as well. The Bahamas is visited from all walks of life. Lots of european folks own and live there. Sarge

Just the islands that were hit directly had a population of 70 or more thousands of people. You have to quit CNN!

I'm seeing reports of thousands of dead they can see floating around! And other reports thousands more are buried and more reports that say we may never know how many were washed away.

I'm not sure the country is worth rebuilding. I know that isn't what most want to hear but reality is with continuing rising of the sea it will happen again and again. It is the same with the small islands US owns off the coast.

There are about 400K people and it will take years to even come close to rebuild it, why? The country needs to make a decision on what to do but again when it has to depend on others to rebuild it and then they get mad because others can't do miracles to save them.

Yes sir. I say we drop supplies and keep on flying. They have their independence do they not and should handle things.

The Bahamas were a British territory until 1964, at which time they became an independent nation. The queen of England is still their government figurehead (like Canada).

Not all of the islands were destroyed like the one shown repeatedly on the news, but the immediate challenge is overwhelming for the remainder of the country so the humanitarian thing to do is to provide help. That doesn't mean rebuilding for them, we have enough economic troubles of our own, but it does mean helping so more don't die from lack of food, water, shelter, and medical assistance. That help is coming from many places including the US. Given the level of devastation and resulting complete lack of communication, the challenge is tremendous.

the northern portion of the Bahamas has had a lackluster economy for some time and the prognosis for the future is not that great as there is no real industry there. So rebuilding will be slow and will need a lot of private sector and or governmental support, much of which will need to come from outside sources. How nations, municipalities respond during these types of disaster in many ways demonstrates how they have put together infrastructure and plans in the past and that will give some idea of what will take place for the future. Many of the homes were built to with stand 150 mph winds which is very good but how are the other aspects of infrastructure holding up and responding to wind, flooding, looting etc.

Well if the queen of england is still their government figurehead in any capacity, it's obvious to me who should shoulder the debt to rebuild them.

We fought a war to get away from the crown kissers....The United States of America is NOT subserviant to the u.k

The crown kissers aren't a pimple on our a--, and still wish to do us harm to this day.

^ can you elaborate on that statement of "everything is being taken care of" quote? That is interesting!
