Recently my dog has taken to catching and bringing into the house mice from outside which I usually will not notice till she gets in and then spits it up at my feet after running all over the house with it first of course

Any way to stop her from doing this

A couple of times I have woken up to a fresh mouse laid next to my head while a sleep and her sitting there looking all proud and happy, not the best surprise first thing in the morning

It’s getting annoying having to pick up and remove several mice every day or finding one in the bed

A dog lives for approval let him know your not happy just a little stink eye and the bad dog voice should do it!

We had a cat which would do that, except that it was chipmunks, and they were still alive! Wake up to that next to your head one morning!

Teach her to sit outside of the door to house, before entering. Then teach her to hand you what's in her mouth before entering and hope the mice are already dead.

I had to put down my last great mouser and ratter dog last Winter. I hope to get another one. A dog that will kill vermin is incredibly useful on a farm.

Had a lab that would stalk and catch meadow voles, worked them just like a fox or coyote, ate every one though...He would also hunt and catch muskrats,

As for your situation, you'll probably have to catch her in the act , and make the correction memorable...

Sounds like a great dog to me, what true trapper doesn't love a good varmint/vermin dog!!! I've got a Blue Heeler that is my right hand man, it's his job to assist me in guarding my wife, our place and our stuff. He kills mice, but just leaves them lay. I sure wouldn't scold him for killing them no matter where he left them. Sounds to me like you need to check her mouth bf she comes in.

Frankly I could care less if she kills them or not though I worry that she might decide to hunt mice when we are hunting birds

My dogs have a fenced in yard with their own access whenever they want to go in or out

And you might not be so happy if you rolled over in bed and ended up with mouse guts all over the side of your face or in your hair from the chewed up mice that your dog decided to gift you with on your bed or pillow

Or if you stepped one the same during a late night run for the bathroom

My wife and I always laugh and say it's like having a perpetual 5 year old kid in the house. The joys of dog ownership.

She will get side tracked on mice but will continue to hunt birds. You will see it.

Key words; correction memorable X2

I'd be more worried with the dog getting worms from the mice and passing some on to you. Read some of the Alberta tapeworm thread to get up to speed on this.
