Anyone ever use porcupine meat or glands as a bait or lure? I catch them from time to time doing coyote work and got to thinking that they kinda have a unique to them odor that’s easily recognized. I know lots of critters avoid a porcupine but cats will often make a meal out of one around here. Didn’t know if anyone had experience with trying one as bait or lure and thought I might bring it up here.

Most any red or white meat can be used for bait. Porkies aren't available in any quantity for commercial use but a fella could most likely make use of one and do just fine with it. Make your own type of bait of your choosing or add a commercial bait solution to boost the meat odor and flavor.

Thank you for your response. I had one brought into the shop today and started thinking about it when I got a whiff of the thing. I think I’m going to cube it up and let it taint a day or two. I don’t know if I should add anything to it or just preserve it and use it.

I wouldn't buy a bait solution. Tried 2 and they were junk.

Then that would mean bait Solutions should be automatic and guaranteed correct? Is that same comment said to Big named trappers who are known for big catches when a product doesn't work for them?

It means buy from the right supplier and follow directions. When I take my grandson to a buffet he goes to the end of the table with cake, I go to the opposite end for medium rare roast beef. Why can’t we believe this isn’t MIT rocket science.

Still kinda wondering about the two ??'s above ya comment. We all know it isn't rocket science but "most" know that animals are unpredictable and just because some big named supplier sold them a bottle of stink with x name on doesnt mean it will produce as advertised. Hence the thousand of recipes people still cant put together and is asking for more.

Yep, der sum truth to that. Always wondered if location and proven products were purchased and most seem to think that is all that is needed. Why do animals walk right by bait and lure? Becomes a game of odds due to their ability to be unpredictable just when you think you know them.
