Helped my father in law pick some apples yesterday so him and my wife and kids can make applesauce. Seeing that bad apples and the ones already on the ground made me wonder if a guy could make some kind of coon bait out of them, what say you?

You'd have to freeze or smush them up so any preservatives can permeate the entire batch.

Mike Marsayada had a couple of articles in the Trappers Post about making bait from fruit. Going by memory, but I think he said chop up the fruit, put it in a quart glass jar, add a cup of sugar and store in a cool dark place for a month. You should have some juice (which is fermented) and some solids. Add to your lure or use as is.

Picked up a few over the weekend, red and yellow Gala and some honey crisp and Asian pears. Not sure which is my favorite but all are awesome.

When they peel and core the apples . Get them to save you the leftovers. They will just get thrown out. Should make good bait. old243

Lazarus I’ve got a batch made with black raspberries fermenting now per Mikes directions, should be ready here in a couple more weeks. Wasn’t sure if the apple would cure and ferment the same way or not.
