160 user, you are in a tough place and I don't envy your position. It is odd that it took this long to manifest itself but obviously something happened to trigger it. Just out of curiosity how old was the puppy when you got her and how well was she socialized in her first 3 to 4 months of age? I don't know if the problem can be solved or not and no one really does until the work is put into the dog and without knowing what triggered it, the aggressiveness could well return. I had a bloodhound that just snapped and turned on me, it was determined that he had a lesion/tumor on the brain. Whatever your decision it will be tough I'm sure.

We see headlines all the time about some kid being killed or maimed by a dog "THATS NEVER SHOWED ANY AGGRESSIVENESS TOWARDS US". I just dont understand why anybody would be irresponsible enough to have one around that had ever showed aggressiveness towards kids or anything beyond barking at a stranger in the drivway .

All kids deserve to have a dog in their life that loves them like a parent.

My grandson got bit by the other grandparents dog,
Visiting one time got a small bite on the hand.
Parents told them not going to visit anymore till dog is gone.
They decided to lock the dog up when he came over. Parents let him go back and he
went to pet the dog while it was eating and the dog bit him in the face. Now after 2 surgeries it is better but he will be scarred for life.
Not worth the risk. Dog should go at first signs of a bad aggression.
The dog was not put down just given away. Who knows who it will bite in the future.

To those that have posted that the dog can be conditioned to accept and be safe around kids I applaud you .
Those in the kill it now camp probably have the same solution for dogs that have learned to kill sheep and goats.
“Once a dog has killed a sheep or chicken or whatever they are killers forever and must be put down”. I have seen first hand this is not true. My grandfather used to say “you have to be smarter than the dog to teach him anything “.

Yet another example of the Dunning-Krugger effect.
And proof positive some people shouldn’t have dogs.

NOT what I said at all. I said I agree with the posts that said the dog may be trained-conditioned to be safe with kids. Aggression is only acceptable when under command.
There are a very small percentage of dogs that are PSYCO, and those should be euthanized. The percentage in humans is much higher IMO.

I definitely think some people shouldn't own dogs. Especially people with anger issues lab's are very smart dog's and should know it's place in a family group. If the family yells at each other or God forbid beat the dog out of anger lab's get confused. They are a get and give breed. They need to know they are loved and not the protector of the pack.

My current lab came from a troubled life. He is older, but acts like a puppy. I have done very little with him as far as training and it shows. He is very loving and friendly almost overwhelming.......... that being said, strangers dont come in my yard without him barking at you. At night you would think he's a 300 lbs pit bull barking. I know 100% that dog knows his place, but push come to shove he would protect my house.

Who cares if a dog hurts a criminal?

Well, when a stray dog kills any of my wife's chickens she tends to train him very quickly.
I have never seen one repeat said event.

That's one fine looking Lab, Nessie! He'd be welcome in my boat blind anytime.

Thats what I thought too. Looks a lot like the Chesapeake I posted about earlier in this thread.
