I have a lot of paper and I have been concentrating on the "golden years" of the 70's& 80's. At the same time I have been spending time on ADC (us fish & wildlife) before USDA. Couple that with the, who came first the chicken or the egg: in other word the pedagree or bloodline of how we got here. EAST VS WEST. Like John Ehn was one of the first USFW to retire and give lesson. But there were many before him that wrote. Mast is another point often overlooked. We know Gerold Weland was one of John Ehns first to make it big (1952 way before Craig and the gang). Bill Nelson is another point 91940's also). Then you have the east, Art Crane, BILL RANDALL. before Dailey, then you have Lynch, Arnold and Cronk. The truth table lies in when they were born, when did the start trapping, when did the first market their lessons or lures. Its all written down. It like a very interesting puzzel, to look at till season opens. Glad you enjoy the posts. Remember the best were probably never in print, you learn this as you dig. I talked to Mike Laughlin for over an hour the other day, now that man is the historian on USFW ADC, at least in my books. He still saddles his own horse at 88.

Moscow Hide & Fur bought fur from Roy Kuykendall, Oscar Ehn, Frank Terry, Vern Cunningham and a few other big name Trappers back in the fur boom of the 70s. They probably have receipts and other paperwork linked to those guys. I would love to get my hands on that.

I really enjoy these posts that mention old past trappers and their articles and books. Would be willing to be that a good many of the folks you bring up are not at all recognized by most of the forum members. Sure the older guys here may remember, but most here won't know what great articles they have missed.
The trapper magazine was an incredible resource back during that period. The quality of writers and information was excellent. Very good trappers wrote to get people to recognize their names so they would want to use their products, be it books, baits or lures. It was a different time.

Not many today want to take the time and effort to be a true student of trapping history,
Thank you for sharing.

Mac
