What is your go to bait for Porcupine? I have used salted apples in cold weather. Chewing the edges of the deck.

A blind set has always worked for me. Usually they use the same trail

Salt just plain salt we would salt a stump away from the cabin to keep them away from the cabin that way.

I had coon and porkies in the corn a few weeks ago . I set 4 cage traps 2 with salted apples and 2 with sardines, I caught 2 porkies with the sardines and I coon with the apple. Go figure.

Best bet is to set up a blind and call them in.

I use a stick call. They respond best to a poplar sound, but a good oak call will work in a pinch.

A screaming apple works pretty good too.

White noise works too. They think it's salt

You sure it's not squirrels if you don't have porkies? They like the salt in the wood and the rim of the outhouse seat too.

I see a few hit on I-90 and I look around and don't see any trees in any direction then I wonder if the got hit by a vehicle or starved to death! LOL With that salted stump you can hear them gnawing at night and give them a gift then.

Well, if it is hitting the deck often he doesn't holed up very far away. He has a den some where close and that is what I would look for. When you get close to it you will smell it/them. Then set right at the entrance with exposed foothold to one side or the other of the den and you will have a porkie.

I had a pair early this summer holed up under a guys cottage. Blind set the openings, and got two, but a third one ended up being really tough to get. Traps had to be removed when the people were there. While there was sign of the Porky's chewings all over the place, he only frequented the cottage every once in a while. Never got the third one and the problem went away. I was not able to check every day, so live traps were out, and I wasn't going to try bait like apples and catch every non Target in the province in a coni ...

Saw a pile of them sprinkles three feet high under a porky riddled pine tree den.
